Some in-place eDiscovery searches result in: The mailbox database is temporarily unavailable

Hi,

we have a problem with the eDiscovery search. If I search for specific categories in eDiscovery (e.g. category:red ) the search is failing and I am getting:The mailbox database is temporarily unavailable. Even in Powershell the search fails and I am getting mailboxdatabaseoffline Exception.

But if I search for from:somemail@example.com the search is working without any errors.

Does anyone has an idea how to solve that? Thanks.

Can't use ECP if one of two Exchange servers disabled

Hello all,

For some reason if my 1st Exchange 2013 server disabled I am not able to use ECP of the 2nd Exchange 2013 server.

If I go https://exchange02/ecp I can see a start up page, but after I put my password and login name all I can see is a HTTP 500 Internal server error Page.

Is it normal?

Mailbox Folder size report - single user

Today when a user wants increase in mailbox, management likes us to provide the user a mailbox report of all their folders, so maybe they can see some folders that they can clean up. I know this can be easily found in Outlook by the user, but management will be management.  So run the report, we normally use "get-mailboxstatistics | select name, foldersize" and export it to CSV.

This has two downsides

1) depending on size of folder, it will show in kb, or mb, which is not easily sortable in excel. I'd prefer it to be all in MB, but I forget how to do this.

2) This report includes folders like "Purges", "Versions", "Recoverable Items" "Deletions" which I do not believe count towards mailbox quota. Also, these are not folders the user can access.

Does anyone know how I can edit the command I run to resolve these two issues?

High CPU - ParserServer.exe

High Everyone,

We recently migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. Around 9:00 every morning, we are seeing CPU utilization go to 100% for between 2 and 10 minutes. We monitor processes during this time and it is parserserver.exe that is the culprit. We see an instance for the 4 DB's that reside on each server. The rest of the day the servers run normally between 30-50% CPU utilization. During this time when the CPU's are pegged, we have some client connectivity issues.

We are running Exchange 2013 SP1 with CU7

We have provided Perfmon information to Microsoft but wondered if anyone else has run into this?

We recently migrated the final mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to 2013, the migration process has taken months to complete thanks to issues.

I have now been asked to check when a particular mailbox moved, I know there is a way to get this info, along with the old database, but I cannot find anything that gives me this information.

Could anyone advise me how to get this info? Thanks

Set mailbox' PrimarySmtpAddress to the value of the Initials-attribute on the corresponding AD object found with get-user.

Hello,

The get-user can retrieve the value I want to use as email address 'prefix' for a group of users. How can I couple that attribute of the user object with a different domain name we use?

Somtthing like:

get-user -resultsize unlimited -OrganizationalUnit "domain.com/Department" |Set-Mailbox  -PrimarySmtpAddress=$initials + "newdomain.com"  -EmailAddressPolicyEnabled $False

Any assistance is appreciated.

Best regards, Tim

In-Place Hold Query Based on Assigned Policy

Is it possible to create an "in-place hold" query that places a hold on all items matching an "assigned policy/personal tag?' If so, how do you do it?  We have three possible assigned polices. If staff do not select a policy, their email is purged in 90 days. If they do select a policy, it's an important message and we want to place it on an In-Place hold for the duration of the Assigned Policy.

want to get list of distribution group that a user is member in cloud and on-prem dl

Hi,

I am trying to pull out the list of distribution group a user is member of using powershell.

Get-Memberof -Identity "user name"

But the problem is that i can only get the list of dl's for which user is member of for on-prem dl's and not for cloud dl's as the ad account memberof tab only consist the list of on-prem dl's only and not the dl's which are created directly on o365.

So is there a way to get the list of dl's for both type of dl i.e on-prem and dl's which are created directly on o365?

Much more RAM usage from Exchange Server

$

Hello guys,

i have a such thing about Exchange server 2013 to ask,...

So, to clarify the problem in the depth, I have exchange server roles installed separately from each other.
The issue is that mailbox server consumes much more RAM and from task manager process it showing me that number of IIS worker processes uses a lot of memory.

I have implemented that mail server's role (it have 64GB RAM) a week ago and now it consumes 52-54GB RAM already.
I have Tried to restart exchange information store service - then RAM consumption is freed up, but after that behavior it continues again the memory usage.

Do you know how to resolve this issue ?

It will be very helpful for me to correct this...

Thanks in advance,

DC/GC Affinity Question

$

Hi All, I hope you can help.

My Environment:

I'm running a Exch 2013 2 node DAG across 2 WAN separated AD sites, there are two client access servers on each site and we are part of  a large single root forest with multiple subdomains. There are two domain controllers on each site, all DC's are global catalogs and the site and subnets are correctly configured and the right servers are showing in the right sites including the Exchange servers.

My Issue:

I noticed that running certain commands in the Exchange Management Shell for one site was extremely slow so I thought I'd check what they were running against.Get-adserversettings |fl showed me that it was using a DC and GC outside my subdomain which was odd. There are two DC's in site and many many more across my particular subdomain.

So I checked get-exchangeserver -status |fl and that showed the same output.

I also checked event ID 2080 in the application event logs but this showed correctly (In-site DC's are the two local DC's and Out-Of-Site showed the DC's at my other site on the other side of the DAG.

Over the last few days the Exchange AD Topology service has always reported correctly but the Exchange Management Shell has consistently reported different DC/GC's in different subdomains each time I've checked which concerns me. The CAS boxes on my other site always report the local DC/GC's to them. I know I can manually set a preferred DC but I'd rather it worked correctly.

My question is, what is Exchange actually using? I'm guessing it goes on the Exchange AD topology findings which are correct but why does my Exchange Management Shell on either CAS at that site never pick up the correct servers?

Is there a way to configure Exchange's logging to meet such a requirement?
