FEP.Maintenance.Workitem - disabled but causing XmlDefinitionReaderWorkItem error

Hello,

I have a bit of an issue with the FEP monitor on an Exchange 2013 Mailbox server. I have had some assistance from the SCOM team, and have followed the advise given but thisone server is still playing up.

After disabling the FEP check in the FEPActiveMonitoringContext, reboot, I get the following error appear in the event log every so often;

definitions were not created successfully:FEP.Maintenance.Workitem: An item with the same primary key 37 already exists in the table. Existing definition name: FEP.Maintenance.Workitem. New definition name: FEP.Maintenance.Workitem

Shortly after, this;

System.InvalidOperationException: Service MsMpSvc was not found on computer '.'. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The specified service does not exist as an installed service
SCOM then alerts as per the event log indicates. Does anybody know how to resolve this monitor issue with EXCH?

Backpressure and database transaction log drive

If I have transaction logs on a separate drive does Exchange backpressure monitor that drive?

The following link discusses the 'message queue' database transaction logs but these seem to be different from the database transaction logs - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201658(v=exchg.150).aspx

We recently had an issue that brought into question whether this drive is being monitored. Unfortunately we didn't have old enough event logs to go through for backpressure events.

Exch 2013 SP1 Mutidomain set up. mail enabled user shows Forest Root Domain email address.

Hi,

First let me explain my Exch 2013 SP1 Multidomain set up.

1. DA as Forest Root domain, having schema master domain role installed.

DB as Tree Root domain in above forest 

DC as Child domain in Tree root domain.

2. After set up, I have ran 'netdom query fsmo' on each DC. It displayed schema master role on forest DC and domain role on individual DC on which command was run.

3. Now to install Exch 2013 SP1, ran appropriate command on forest  DC (i.e PrepareAD, Prepareschema and alldomain).

4. Brought 1 machine in Child domain and installed Exch 2013 SP1 server on it.

Now, when I access ECP, Create user, new mailboxdatabse etc. options available only if login to ECP by ForestRootDomain\administrator credentials. please confirm.

while creating new user, it shows User Login Name with Child.TreeRootDomain.local default but after creating user, it shows Username@ForestRootDomain.local as Email address. Please confirm.

Delegate sent items issue

Hi,

I'm running Exchange 2010, Version 14.3, Build 123.4.

We have a number of shared mailboxes where delegates send on behalf of. The default action seems to be for the sent emails to be kept in the sent items on the personal mailbox of the person sending the email as opposed to in the shared mailbox. On windows machines we have been applying a client-side fix for this as per https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2181579

This solution doesn't work for mac machines however - and I can't find anything equivalent for outlook on mac.

The server-side solution doesn't seem to work at all for existing mailboxes - this is to set the "Messages sent as this mailbox will appear in the Sent Items folder of the:" and the "Messages sent on behalf of this mailbox will appear in the Sent Items folder of the:" to either "From" or "Sender and from mailboxes". Emails are still only saved in the sent items of the sender. However, when I create a new mailbox all together, it seems to save it into both the sender and from mailboxes sent items regardless of which option is selected.

Does anyone know how to resolve this for existing mailboxes? And does anyone know why even on a new mailbox, the behaviour doesn't appear to reflect the setting I choose through webmail?

Impersonate Rights in Multi Tenant Environment

Hi,

we have an exchange 2013 multi tenant system running.

some customers asks now for impersonation rights assigned to a user for PBX systems to query the contacts folders.

is it possible to assign impersonationrights to a user, but this user should only allowed to query a set of users with the impersonation rights?

So, a user in Company1 should only query Company1 Users...

Managed Availability - FfoDeployment/DiscoveryErrorReportMonitor - thousands entries in registry

Running Exchange 2013 CU7, we've got an issue with thousands (50000+) entries in hive:

Exch 2013 SP1 How to create new mailbox account for multiple users exist in active directory in one go?

Hi,

First let me explain my Exch 2013 SP1 Multidomain set up.

1. DA as Forest Root domain, having schema master domain role installed.

DB as Tree Root domain in above forest 

DC as Child domain in Tree root domain.

Brought 1 machine in Child domain and in stalled Exch 2013 SP1 on it.

Now i have created 100 users in child domain, but i am not getting a option to enable Exchange mailbox for all 100 users in one go. (Also unable to do same on normal set up having one DC and Exch 2013 SP1 server)

Could you please help me do it.

Change encoding in OWA from QP to UTF-8

Hello,

we changed settings as suggested here, however, mail sent via OWA or Outlook are always QP.

For our business purposes we need to have all mails encoded in UTF-8 format.

We use Exchange 2013 fully patched.  

Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

If anyone can suggest some solution, i would be thankfull, as at this point i don't know where to look for setting to force owa to use UTF-8.

policy for need to delete the email attachment after 14 days in exchange 2010.

we have one requirement  saying that  we need to delete the all  email attachments in our all email recipients mail boxes after 14 days for storage preserve propose.

Is it possible to enable this through any rention policies.

Kindly let me know the process to achieve that.

I have an outbound exchange server with no internet connection available to it that keeps trying to access a microsoft website, but since it doesn't have internet, it keeps throwing an error saying that the remote name can't be resolved. Is there a way to turn off this error or disable the function that keeps trying to reach microsoft?

All (4) Exchange Hub Trasnport that try to connect to this store get an 4.32 store drive error.  A newjournalmailboxwas createdin the samedatabase,andthe problem was solved.

Migration from Office 365 Online Exchange to On-Premise Exchange 2013 - Sync problems

Hi all,

I am trying to get some more insight related to following problem.

Our organisation decided to migrate from Online Exchange to on-premise server.  As Microsoft doesn't have any option to migrate back from cloud to physical mailboxes, I went via simple route of just exporting all 22 user mailboxes data into separate .PST files.

After Exchange 2013 was deployed and tested in-house and MX record was re-pointed to on-premise server, I went via deleting all current profiles and .ost data files and re-creating profiles with new server details and importing data back to user mailboxes. There was no any obvious problem with that, until users Outlook clients started to sync with new Exchange server and push data to Exchange database and populate mailboxes with imports from these .pst. 

The problem is still current - speed of synchronising back to Exchange is extremely slow - over last 24 hours, only 18 GB out of 70 for all 22 user mailboxes synced back to the server. I keep monitoring mailbox sizes via Recipients pane on ECP - sometimes it just stops. There is no way to see progress on user clients - in most cases it shows percentage and that's all. But even after it says "All folders has been updated", another Send/Receive starts synchronisation again.  In order to eliminate bandwidth problem (which shouldn't be an issue at all), I reduced sync to 3-4 clients only, but it still doesn't help. One of the large mailbox users (9GB) has only 5GB synced over last 24 hours. And as I already mentioned, sync stops and resumes randomly. Most popular status messages for sync process - "Synchronising Hierarchy", "Synchronising local changes of Inbox folder" etc. 

Some small mailbox users with 100-200MB mailboxes are ok, but I still have 3 users with 10-15Gb mailboxes and as this sync process disables receiving and sending of email until it's complete, I  don't want to leave users without email for 2-3 days (or train how to use OWA).

I found information about recommendation to disable Cached Mode, but it didn't made any difference. 

Please help with any advise, can this issue be related to Outlook client version or settings of Exchange Server? Most clients are 2007/2010.

Hello, I am trying to delete 6 disconnected mailboxes from the database called

Mailbox Database1999998113

when I run the below, I get no error which is a good sign, but they are still there...?

How to manage Shared Inbox Permissions with a Group

I am trying to manage a shared inbox access rights and send as permissions with a security group.  My server is a 2013 CU7.  What I did is create a mailbox called HR.  Then I created a security group called HR Group.  I then assigned the HR Group to the HR Shared mailbox with the EAC and cmd-lets to allow HR Group fullaccess and send-as rights.  The permissions do not seem to be applied even though the group shows in the EAC mailbox delegation window.  When I go to access/send as I get permission denied.  Is there a way to use groups for this?  When I explicitly give myself permission to the HR shared mailbox it works fine.  Any thoughts?

Much more RAM usage from Exchange Server

Hello guys,

i have a such thing about Exchange server 2013 to ask,...

So, to clarify the problem in the depth, I have exchange server roles installed separately from each other.
The issue is that mailbox server consumes much more RAM and from task manager process it showing me that number of IIS worker processes uses a lot of memory.

I have implemented that mail server's role (it have 64GB RAM) a week ago and now it consumes 52-54GB RAM already.
I have Tried to restart exchange information store service - then RAM consumption is freed up, but after that behavior it continues again the memory usage.

Do you know how to resolve this issue ?

It will be very helpful for me to correct this...

Mail Forensics: Confirm that a mail was delivered to Inbox/Junk Folder

Hi Guys,

So I have a client who wants to investigate that a very important mail sent to a user was delivered to inbox and not junk folder. The case here is this, the user failed to act on instructions contained in a mail, her excuse was that it was delivered to junk mail folder.

Now we are trying to find a way to investigate and verify whether the mail was actually delivered to inbox folder or junk folder.

Exchange version is exchange 2013 CU7
