Asked to log into public folder mailbox during login

$

Exchange 2013, multi tenant.

One of our guys added a new tenant using powershell commands.

Something went wrong and now when you log in to Outlook it pops up and asks you for a username and password for the public folder account.  Basically, same login box as to the email account but it says "pfmailbox@newdomain.com".  Pfmailbox is the disabled mailbox for the public folders.

It also updated several groups that used "ourdomain.loc" to add a new email account name "accountname@newdomain.com".

Its like it created a new email address policy that applied to the default server accounts.

I am not sure how to go about to resolve that so I am asking for help.

Can someone please guide me in resolving this problem.

What kind of info would I need to provide?

H.

Clarification about names needed in paid SSL certificate request for OWA access

Hello,

I'm looking into paying for a 3rd party SSL certificate so that anyone can easily access our OWA without getting security warnings on their browser on their personal machines, and I've found this page:

https://practical365.com/exchange-server/create-ssl-certificate-request-exchange-2013/

In his certificate request example, he includes two names:

  • mail.exchange2013demo.com
  • autodiscover.exchange2013demo.com

My question is, why does he need autodiscover.exchange2013demo.com, if it is only for an internet-facing client access server?

I ask because I have OWA set up like https://mail.mydomain.com/owa, and that is how all our employees access OWA in their browsers, and that's the only way anyone would access OWA outside of the workplace.  In the office, they use Outlook desktop, which currently works fine without issue.

If I made an SSL certificate request, based on my above information, do you think I would need autodiscover.mydomain.com in the request in addition to mail.mydomain.com?  If so, why?

Thanks for your time.

We have pulled the FullAccess mailbox list, but is there a way to remotely view a user's exchange profile to see what shared mailboxes the user has access to or that are open/available to the user?

New user email - Recreated: 550 Error

Hi,

We have an issue where a new users email was created, deleted and recreated. For some internal users it works because they never emailed her but other had a bad cached copy of her email it seemed.

Diagnostic information for administrators:

Generating server: ERA-EX1.server.net

IMCEAEX-_o=EMMS_ou=Exchange+20Administrative+20Group+20+28FYDIBOHF23SPDLT+29_cn=Recipients_cn=233bfde1c7c947dea874b9070b1653cc-Melissa+20Burciaga@server.net Remote Server returned '550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound; not found'

However, some users are still having the issue after we cleared their cache in Outlook.

From the server I ran a couple shell commands to update the address book and some users still get a bounceback.

Get-AddressList | Update-AddressList

Get-GlobalAddressList | Update-GlobalAddressList

Are there any commands I'm missing that would force an update on the database so that the SID of the first email would be cleared and users emailing her going forward get the correct email address?

Any help or even opinions on the issue would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone,

We are using in house exchange 2013 email solution. Recently, we have shifted our public IP's to another ISP. DNS records and MS records against our domain is published and is reachable. Almost every domain can send us email and vice versa. Except all the domains who host their email on the Microsoft cloud / office 365, our server tries to connect and send email in response we get server busy error:

451 4.7.500 Server busy. Please try again later from [*.*.*.*. (*********) [********.eop-EUR02.prod.protection.outlook.com]

Sometimes after too many retries the email is delivered.

The mailbox has user@domain1.com and user@domain2.com, is it possible to use powershell to export all emails sent to user@domain2.com and then delete all the emails I just exported from that mailbox while leaving all emails sent to user@domain1.com as is , if so can someone please tell me what powershell command to use?

Outlook 2016 clients disconnecting with Exchange 2013 CU21

$

Hi All

I have been experiencing Outlook client disconnect issues for about 6 months now since expanding my Exchange environment from a single node to 4 nodes in a DAG and CAS array (Kemp LB) over 2 sites and single namespace. Outlook clients are 2016. Everything is up-to-date with patches. There are about 200 mailboxes.

Clients are disconnecting from Exchange with a balloon warning in the system tray. It’s intermittent possibly happening to a user 2/3 times a day – or not at all. Reconnections take 5 seconds and then they are good again. It appears to only affect a single user at a time. Event log show event 25 (Cannot expand the folder. The set of folders cannot be opened. Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange.) and 26 (Connection to Microsoft Exchange has been lost. Outlook will restore the connection when possible.)If I enable Outlook logging the dreaded Event Log ID 19 appears:

Rpc call (EcDoRpcExt) on transport (unknown) to server
Or
Rpc call (NspiDNToEPH) on transport (unknown) to server
Or
Rpc call (NspiUnbind)
Or
Rpc call (Unknown) on transport (unknown) to server
Followed by:
(https://domain.co.uk/mapi/nspi/?MailboxId=f52db801-3b4f-4fde-ac85-b254d7d4e3ac@domain.co.uk) failed with error code (80004005) after waiting (47) ms; eeInfo (none).
Or
failed with error code (800704d3) after waiting (50515) ms; eeInfo (none).

My environment is server2012R2, Exchange 2013 CU21.

Some troubleshooting I have performed:
1.When I click on the mapi nspi link in the event log and authenticate, the virtual director displays café: (exchange server fqdn) and mailbox (exchange server fqdn. If I check the “Café” exchange server event logs at the time the client gets the eventid 19, and drill down to Exchange-ActiveMonitoring-ProbeResult, here are some of the logs I see:

Probe result (Name=TopoDiscoveryFailedAllServersProbe/HQMAIL.atlgroup.co.uk)
Probe result (Name=DatabaseHealthDbCopySuspendedProbe/17G-DB2)
Probe result (Name=SearchCopyStatusHaImpactingProbe/17G-DB4)
Probe result (Name=MSExchangeInformationStoreCannotContactADProbe/HQMAIL.atlgroup.co.uk)
Probe result (Name=ServiceHealthMSExchangeReplCrashProbe/msexchangerepl)
Probe result (Name=ActiveQueueDrainFailureProbe)
Probe result (Name=DatabaseHealthDbCopyFailedAndSuspendedProbe/17G-DB2)
Probe result (Name=DatabaseHealthDbCopySuspendedProbe/17G-DB4)
Probe result (Name=ThrottlingServiceRunning/msexchangethrottling)
Probe result (Name=ClusterServiceCrashProbe/ClusSvc)
Probe result (Name=ScanningProcessRepeatedlyCrashingProbe/scanningprocess)

None of the events are in an error state

I have recorded this issue with a client connecting to the exchange cas and mailbox server on their local subnet – no vpn, firewall, wan etc.

2.I have run get-healthreport and everything is healthy except a mailboxspace which is not an issue.
3.I have checked cert bindings for both default and backend sites in IIS and all looks good.
4.I have checked virtual directories including MAPI and all URLs and auth look good
5.I have seen a few posts on OutlookProvider (EXCH, EXPR). This is not set in my environment. Is this something worth looking at?
6.I also wondered if this could be an Exchange throttling issue – so I enabled logging - C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Logging\RPC Client Access log file doesn’t show any throttling issues. I also created a new throttling policy with -RCAMaxConcurrency 100.
7.There is a corresponding System Event 36887 - A fatal alert was received from the remote endpoint. The TLS protocol defined fatal alert code is 20.
8.I have ruled out a Load balancer issue by using a host file on the clients and connecting direct to CAS/Mailbox servers
9.Clients are RDS 2012R2 RDS session hosts

Not too sure what to do next

Out Of Office Assistant, Mail Tips, & Free/Busy Not Working In Outlook Client

$

Hello,

I have an up-to-date Exchange 2010 server. We're migrating to Exchange Online this summer, so no plans to upgrade. Late last week, the three above services stopped working in the Outlook client. They still work in OWA (which is still working completely onsite and offsite) and mobile devices using ActiveSync are functioning. We hadn't made any configuration changes prior to the problems. I have hit a wall and am looking for other suggested troubleshooting tips. So far, I have:

1. Recreated a test Outlook profile and upgraded to Office 2016 with no change.

2. Reset the AutoDiscover and EWS virtual directories and still have the same errors.

3. Tested with the MS Remote Connectivity Analyzer & Test-OutlookWebServices, which both indicate that the connection was forcibly closed.

4. I am able to access email.domain.net/EWS/Exchange.asmx successfully, but I get an error when connecting to email.domain.net/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml. However, we never configured AutoDiscover, so I'm not sure why it would suddenly have an effect.

5. Both the OS and Exchange are running the latest updates.

Thank you in advance for any additional help.

Hybrid autodiscover with Office 365

Hi,

We use Exchange 2010 enterprise with Office 365.

As of now autodiscover public dns is pointing to office 365.

we have outlook 2016 clients for office 365 accounts. So we need to have autodiscover dns pointing to office 365.

But as of now we have clients who started using outlook 2016 for onpremises also.

We were able to configure manual proxy configurations and authentication settings for outlook 2013 and 2010 clients. But now as it is outlook 2016 we are not able to.

If we changed autodiscover to onpremise exchange will the office 365 clients work?

It was not working before and so we had changed the autodiscover to point to office 365.

Kindly let me know the solution and steps to resolve this issue.

Exchange 2013 public folders briefly going unavailable

$

I'm curious if anyone else has run into anything similar to this, I'm looking for a place to start investigating a little more thoroughly.

One of my clients is seeing their Exchange 2013 public folders stop working in Outlook. Users complain that Outlook says it can't open the public folders, and sometimes may just crash Outlook. Meanwhile we'll also notice queue buildups going to the PF database. Finally, we'll also notice that in EAC, the public folders view will be empty. Items in the queue to PF mailboxes will show the following error:

STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:StorageTransientException.MapiExceptionTimeout; Failed to process message due to a transient exception with message Cannot open mailbox /o=Business/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=server/cn=Microsoft System Attendant. 16.55847:7E000000,

Then all of a sudden, the public folders are back, the queues will flush out, and the folder structure in EAC is back to normal. Usually seems like it's maybe somewhere between 10-30 minutes where it's unavailable. We're trying to map out the timing a little bit, see if we can find anything we can associate it with - we do know it came up a couple times while doing DB restore jobs, but it also came up when that's NOT been happening.

The database doesn't show it's dismounted in powershell, and the application log doesn't show any issues either. For all intents and purposes, everything looks fine. We've even mounted the DB on its DAG partner, but we've seen this come up again anyway.

My only suspicion is maybe it's related to a third party application blocking access for some reason, but I'm not sure why that would happen. That said, I don't want to rule out the possibility, so if anyone has any experience with that, I'd love to hear it.

And if anyone has any suggestions on where to search for clues, I'd also love to hear that. Thanks!

Retention policies not working for certain users

Hello. In our Exchange 2013 environment, we noticed a few weeks ago that retention policy is not being applied for certain users. The RP should move every item older than 30 days to the online archive. The strange thing of this, is that this is not working for certain users, not all of them. I don't know how many users are experiencing this issue. Any ideas?

Blocking SPAM emails using Message ID

$

Hello,

We are receiving multiple SPAM emails that has different sender, domain, IP & subnet.  But the message ID is the same.

The message ID is 1VI1PR0401CA00076778VI1PR0401CA00076767VI1PR0401CA0007@VI1PR0401CA0007.eur05.prod.office365.com

I created a rule using the following condition...

A message header includes "1VI1PR0401CA00076778VI1PR0401CA00076767VI1PR0401CA0007" "Specify Words or phrase" "1VI1PR0401CA00076778VI1PR0401CA00076767VI1PR0401CA0007@VI1PR0401CA0007.eur05.prod.office365.com"... and the action is set to delete without notifying

This is not deleting the SPAM emails and the SPAM keeps coming in from different sender, domain, IP & subnet, where the message ID remains the same.

Is it possible to block emails using the above condition & action? Or what would be the best suggestion for this scenario? Any assistance is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Aravind

I checked one mailbox in Exchange Admin Center and its showing as Shared mailbox but when i checked the same mailbox on Premises it is showing as User mailbox. May i know the reason behind this?

I like to use Exchange 2010 Powershell to give review rights for user B into the the calendar of user B. Seems easy, but no I ran into errors.

I use: Add-mailboxfolderpermission -identity UserA@domain.com:\calendar-User  UserB@domain.com -AccessRights Reviewer

I get the error: The operation couldn't be performed because userA@domain.com:\calendar couldn't be found.

I tried several users, same error. Strangely enough a meeting room box did work.

What am i doing wrong?

Removal of default database with only health mailboxes remaining

$

We are currently running on premises Exchange 2013 Build 1395.4 ( CU 21 ).

We wanted to reorganize mailboxes into separate databases on differentiated storage so as to apply different storage snapshot policies to different priority mailboxes.

All went well - 3 databases created, mailboxes all moved and original database apparently empty with the exception of the health mailboxes.  I dismounted the original database, call it EXCH2013-ORIG, for a few days with no apparent impact, but yet the health mailboxes still exist so I am wary of just deleting the mailbox, deleting the mailbox accounts from ADUC, and restarting the health service.  I know it's a no-no moving health mailboxes from one database to another so I have two questions.

1) If I delete the mailbox accounts in ADUC and restart the service with the EXCH2013-ORIG dismounted, where will the health mailboxes be created?  Will it follow the priority set in Automatic Distribution or will the mailbox creation fail without EXCH2013-ORIG?

2) Are there any other pitfalls related to deleting this database?  I would like to reclaim the terrabyte of storage.

Thanks
