Retention tags and Contacts question

Creating a custom retention policy for Exchange 2013. I have a default tag of one year for the mailbox and Never for the Calendar folder. I would also like to make sure that Contacts never get deleted.

Since there is no option for Contacts does that just mean that they are excluded and will not delete?

Thanks,
Kenny

Delegate recepient management roles to specific Database

Hi,

I run the below commands to create a management scope for databases: A, B and C and a role group to manage recipients in these databases only.

New-ManagementScope “HQ Databases” -DatabaseList “A″,”B”,"C"

New-RoleGroup "HQ Recipients Management" -Roles "Distribution Groups", "Mail Recipient Creation", "Mail Recipients", "Move Mailboxes" -CustomRecipientWriteScope "HQ Databases"

I added user1 to the role group "HQ Recipients Management", asked him to login to EAC and create a mailbox in any of the databases A, B and C. He receives an error as below when he creates a mailbox for any user:

domain.com/HQ/user2 isn't within your current write scopes. Can't perform save operation.

Can you help?

Trying to enable calendar publishing in Exchange 2010

Hello,

I am trying to enable internet calendar publishing as per an article I found on technet.

The second step in the configuration process wants me to use the shell to enable the publishing virtual directory.

The example syntax is:

Set-OwaVirtualDirectory -Identity "CAS01" -ExternalUrl "<URL for the CAS01>"

I need a little help filling in the blanks. My internal exchange server name is "adas2010-2", my web url is "mail.adasisrael.org/exchange"

No matter what I put in place of "CAS01" I get an error telling me that it can't be found on my DC.

What would be the proper syntax for this command?

Thanks, Jack

Hi,

I have a problem where Event ID 3028 Source MSExchangeApplicationLogic is beeing logged every 6 hours with 4 same type of events. Here is the log:

Scenario: ProcessKillBit. Failed to read killbit list file because of exception System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\owa\prem\15.0.995.29\ext\killbit\killbit.xml' because it is being used by another process.

The environment is single virtual MS Exchange 2013 server running on Windows 2012 R2. DC is running on a separate server.

I can't seem to find any articles or blogs relating to this issue.

Thanks for any help.

Warning about latest update to Exchange Server (to do with smarthost)

$

There seems to be a problem with the latest update to Exchange Server. We've noticed that it now tries to connect to the MX server of the smarthost rather than what it should be doing, which is connect to the 'A' record of the smarthost.

So, if you are using a smarthost that has different 'A' and 'MX' records, as many do, then you could suddenly be unable to send emails.

This seems to be a bug that started only with an update in the last 48 hours, so keep an eye out for it.

Connection dropped on the hub servers

Hello,

We have an exchange 2010 environment with two sites, Let's say one in Chicago and the other one in Delhi. When users send messages within the same site with attachments below the size limit on the hub transport servers, The messages go through fine. However between sites the message get stuck in the queue with error 421 4.4.2 Connection dropped due to ConnectionReset and eventually get NDR after the retry threshold. I enabled verbose traffic on the hub servers but I am seeing any entry on the smtperceive logs what so ever. My next plan is to run wireshark or netmon but Not sure what to look for. Any one has had this issue before?

Export Mailbox list

$

We've a hybrid environment, moving the disabled mailboxes from O365 to on-prem on regular basis to free up the cloud licenses. We've moved the mailbox to database in On-prem server, the issue when I go to export the mailbox list from database it only shows just 2-3 mailboxes which is not correct, and that databases have more than 50+ mailboxes.

when I issue Get-mailbox -database DB01Asia |ft displayname, database

this gives only 2/3, but when ran

Get-mailboxstatistics -database DB01Asia |ft displayname, database

returns 40+ count, but in actual that DB is hosting more than 80+ which we got as raw list of disabled/Inactive mailboxes from cloud.

I tried by both mounting and dismounting DBs, and then export the list.

Any suggestion?

disabling and reenabling archives

$

Hi,

I'm trying to recreate a blank archive for a given user.

from what i read here ( https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232039(v=exchg.150).aspx ) I quote : "If you disable an archive mailbox for a user mailbox and then enable an archive mailbox for that same user, that user mailbox will get a new archive mailbox".

So if I disable and enable a user's archive it should recreate a new one. By new one, I understand it should be a blank one, and not map the old one? Well, that's not the case in my envionment (exchange 2013 CU7). here is what I did exactly :

Disable-Mailbox -Identity myUser -Archive

Get-Mailbox myUser | select *archive*
ArchiveDatabase         :
ArchiveGuid             : 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
ArchiveName             : {}
JournalArchiveAddress   :
ArchiveQuota            : Unlimited
ArchiveWarningQuota     : Unlimited
ArchiveDomain           :
ArchiveStatus           : None
ArchiveState            : None
DisabledArchiveDatabase : Archive01
DisabledArchiveGuid     : 08c9ab34-96b7-4077-ba1b-ef0162ddea99
ArchiveRelease          :

Enable-Mailbox myUser -Archive -ArchiveName Archive01

Get-Mailbox myUser | select *archive*
ArchiveDatabase         : Archive01
ArchiveGuid             : 08c9ab34-96b7-4077-ba1b-ef0162ddea99
ArchiveName             : {In-Place Archive - myUser}
JournalArchiveAddress   :
ArchiveQuota            : Unlimited
ArchiveWarningQuota     : Unlimited
ArchiveDomain           :
ArchiveStatus           : None
ArchiveState            : Local
DisabledArchiveDatabase : Archive01
DisabledArchiveGuid     : 08c9ab34-96b7-4077-ba1b-ef0162ddea99
ArchiveRelease          :

And this maps the old archive back in the user's outlook client. Is there a way to get a blank archive ? and don't tell to open the archive and delete everything :)

Thanks

MessageTrackingLog not showing correct results

$

I am trying to find out when a set of users has last sent and received an email. In my search for the right command, I can see that I not always get the right result.

As an example:

Get-TransportService | Get-MessageTrackingLog -Recipients me@domain.com -EventId deliver | sort TimeStamp -Descending | select -First 1|fl

This returns:

Timestamp               : 09-05-2016 16:25:29

However, if I specify the -Sender I get the correct result:

Timestamp               : 08-06-2016 15:00:02

Is there any other way to get this task done from the Shell?

Firefox says "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete".

What is wrong?

After migrating from 2007 to 2013 I noticed that powershell commands like set-smthing are very very slow. They take more then minute to finish simple mailbox config. Sometime pressing Enter several times speeds up the process. Is it normal for Exchange 2013 (cu12)?

Hi All,

Can anyone please advise me on the following error message?

The proxy address "smtp:l****.******@****.uk" is already being used by the proxy addresses or LegacyExchangeDN of "*****.local/******OU/Users/Lisa.*******". Please choose another proxy address.

Not sure where to go with this so any advice would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Gabor
