Search-mailbox Command for deleted items remove all emails in the mailbox!

Hi, here again with a problem...when I use this command

Search-Mailbox -Identity jhon.doe -SearchQuery {(Received -gt "12/01/2015") -and (Received -lt "12/05/2015") -or (sent -gt "12/01/2015") -and (sent -lt "12/05/2015")} -DeleteContent

also if it's only 5 days of removal period the command removes all items present in the mailbox! Is there something wrong?

Thank you..

Gian

Recipient management for shared mailboxes

My service desk has been granted "Recipient Management" in my Exchange 2013 environment. What rights do they need to be delegated, so that they can grant "Send As" permission on shared mailboxes?

Today they can view the shared mailboxes and grant "Full Access", but not "Send As".

Thanks.

In the Exchange 2013 Web console, how do I disable SMTP relay so spammers can't use that old trick of sending to a non-existent Exchange address to generate an outbound NDR?  Thanks.

How do I change a retention policy that is set on an Archive Mailbox?

$

I have inherited a 2010 Exchange Server with several archive mailboxes that were set up by the previous admin.  I just found out they have a 120-day retention setting applying to all mail messages in both his regular mailbox and archive mailbox. I wish to set the archive mailbox to be 7 year retention.  There is no 7 year retention policy defined yet, so I need to create one and apply it but am rather new to retention policies. From what I am reading in blogs, I am not even sure separate retention can even be set on them.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Number of Lync Online Meetings scheduled in Conference Rooms

I am looking for a report that shows how many meetings scheduled in Outlook with Exchange 2013 Server, are Lync Online Meetings (Lync 2013 Server).

I have reviewed the Conference Summary report in Lync, however that does not show per conference room.

Does anyone know of a script to get this? Or a poweshell command that would be helpful?

Everything I've found does not give me this.

Thank you in advanced.

We have one IT admin user that cannot access the ECP on our Exchange 2013 server. This stopped working after we installed Cumulative Update 12. When she tries to login, she gets this error: 500 unexpected error.  It works fine for every other IT admin user, just this one user.  This shows up in the event log:

Performance crawling after moving mailboxes to a new mailbox database

$
0
0

I'm not finding any info out there that points to any basic design flaws or causes as to why I'm seeing performance issues in my scenario, so I'm posting this in hopes that someone might have an idea.

Environment

  • Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V
  • 3-node Cluster
  • Equalogic iSCSI SAN PS4100x
  • Exchange 2010 sp2 (single server configuration)
  • Exchange VM config, OS VHD, and single mailbox VHD all stored on same LUN
  • LUN attached to all 3 nodes through iSCSI and configured as a CSV
  • Storage and network design appear to satisfy best practice recommendations

Scenario

Configured this way, Exchange has been chugging right along for a few years since we did the P2V. As mailboxes have grown, and the database is approaching 1TB, I wanted to split the database into smaller ones for faster recovery of the database containing the most critical mailboxes. I prefer to have smaller databases of 300-400 GB each, which keeps recovery time under 4 hours.

To achieve my goal, I needed to create two new databases, one for high priority mailboxes with fast recovery requirements, and one for everyone else. The original mailbox database would be emptied completely so that it could be deleted and the space easily recovered on the LUN. I created a new 400gb fixed-size VHD on the same LUN and attached it to the Exchange server. I created a new mailbox database and began moving mailboxes onto it after working hours.

About the time that half the mailboxes were moved, I began to notice a performance degradation in Outlook. Eventually, Outlook was hardly usable for me, and I would be starting at a spinning orb everytime I launched Outlook or tried opening a message. I halted the mailbox move with maybe 30% of all mailboxes already on the new database. I rebooted, scanned the event log, and could not find any obvious reason why performance was still so slow. By morning, people started to login and the system crawled even more, leaving mailboxes completely unusable with everyone reporting 1-5 minutes just to open an email. I began moving mailboxes back to the original VHD immediately. As more and more mailboxes moved back, slowly Exchange started to come back to normal. Performance was back to normal once the moves were finished, and has been normal ever since (2-3 months).

What did I do wrong?

Does each mailbox database need it's own LUN?

Is virtualization not a good idea for my Exchange server?

How should mailbox database/VHD/LUN be designed for my scenario?

Exchange 2013 cannot configure one another

$

Hi everyone,

I have build a new Exchange environment from scratch:

Internal Domain: abc.lan
Primary SMTP Domain: abc.com

Site A:
DC-01 (Server 2012 - 172.20.0.1/21)
EXCH-01 (Server 2012 - Exchange 2013 CU2 - 172.20.0.2/23)

Site B:
DC-02 (Server 2012 - 172.20.20.1/23)
EXCH-02 (Server 2012 - Exchange 2013 CU2 - 172.20.20.2/23)

The Sites are connected through IPsec VPN. AD and DNS replication works totally fine.

Both Exchange Servers are running the CAS and Mailbox roles. I have deployed certificates on both servers signed by the CA on DC-01 and containing the necessary entrys.

I can log into "https://servername or FQDN/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15" on both servers with both their internal FQDNs, IP addresses or DNS names without errors. I can see both servers in the configuration and I can create, move and delete mailboxes and databases.

But when I try to configure Outlook Anywhere or any of the virtual directory URLs, I can only set the URLs of EXCH-01 when I am logged in with "https://exch-01.abc.lan/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15" and the URLs of EXCH-02 only when I am logged in with "https://exch-02.abc.lan/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15".
When I try to configure URLs across both servers EACs the "Please Wait..." sign spins forever and I can't really set any values.
I thought: "Maybe this straightens itself when all the URLs are configured." But no!

I leave the internal URLs at the default values and set all external URLs to "https://mail.abc.com/<service name here>" (including outlook anywhere) on EXCH-01 and to "https://mail-siteb.abc.com/<service name here>"

Now I still can't configure both servers from the same EAC URL and the situation got even more weird:

Now when I logon to "https://exch-01.abc.lan/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15": I'm send to EAC of EXCH-01 and can configure everything but service URLs on EXCH-02.

But when I logon to "https://exch-02.abc.lan/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15": I get redirected to "https://mail.abc.com/owa" - Why that? Regardless of what URL I use, the system redirects me away from EXCH-02 EAC. Even when I use the IP address.

The PowerShell is acting also very weird: Easy commands like "Get-EcpVirtualDirectory" are processed forever. I mean seriously ... FOREVER. I left it for 30 minutes and he didn't finish the cmdlet. I don't get any errors in the event log. Only when I CTRL+C the cmdlet, I get a "Cmdlet stopped" warning in the Exchange Management Log.

I hope someone has a saving suggestion or solution because I'm going nuts on this. Can't be that hard to get those guys together can it?

Kind regards and thanks in advance,
Vasko

Compliance Oultook Logon To Mapi Probe - Managed Availability

We have observed a number of probes failing on 2 servers in an Exchange 2013 cluster.

There seems to be no impact on Exchange Services or users, yet a 'Critical' Error is logged in SCOM.  Having read some forums, I have disabled some of the probes using 'Add-ServerMonitoringOverride' but some events continue to appear:

Event ID 4 - Monitoring

EMSMDB.Connect() step of ComplianceOutlookLogonToArchiveMapiHttpCtpProbe/DB03 has failed against <Server> proxying to Unknown for HealthMailbox.... HttpStatusCode.Unauthorized failure. [HttpStatusCode=401 Unauthorized] [LID=47372]

Does anyone have any insight into disabling the alert?

Exchange Server CU11 slow because of search - noderunner.exe

Hey there,

there must be some tuning out there...

We have 2 Exchange Servers DAG with 20 Mailboxes. Holding 750+ Users.

Today the search indexer thought it would be nice to index all the mailboxes. One Noderunner.exe holds 20GB RAM and uses 40-60% (sometimes 100%) CPU.

Any possible solution how to solve this? If i stop the service and restart it - it will continue to crawl.

Isn't there a switch like in Sharepoint to set the search to Reduced? Or if there are "bad" indexes to built them in the maintenance time in the evening?

Best regards

Stephan

Hi All

I am seeing the below event appearing in the system log on all our Exchange 2013 servers regularly. I am not seeing any connectivity issues between any clients and the servers and no other issues have been reported at this stage.

Log Name:      System
Source:        Schannel
Date:          10/04/2015 9:21:17 AM
Event ID:      36871
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:
User:          SYSTEM
Computer:
Description:
A fatal error occurred while creating an SSL client credential. The internal error state is 10013.

I am not sure if its related to the public certificate we are using or if its related to the one provided from the local CA.I have searched and found other links that suggest it could be related to SSL versions being disabled etc.

All servers are running Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter. The Exchange CAS servers do also sit behind a pair of F5 BIG IP Load Balancers

Any suggestions on where to look?

Thanks

Monitoring Mailboxes don't exist

$

I have a situation where a newly installed Exchange 2013 server contains no monitoring mailboxes. The Microsoft Exchange System Objects/Monitoring Mailboxes OU exists, but does not contain any accounts. the get-mailbox -monitoring powershell command returns nothing. I've restarted the Health Monitoring service, but no accounts/mailboxes are created. There also doesn't appear to be any Error events logged to say that Exchange is having a problem creating these accounts, although I don't know specifically where this would be logged.

The environment is currently in coexistence with Exchange 2010.

Thanks
