There was a power outage and ALL servers rebooted abruptly.

One checking the server this morning, all exchange services that log on with Network Service Account did not start. They give and error - Access Denied.

E.g. The Microsoft Exchange Throttling service failed to start due to the following error:
Access is denied.

The Microsoft Filtering Management Service logs on as a local system account, however it still doesnt start, giving the errors below in event viewer

Exchange 2013 SP1 CU6 / WinSer 12R2 - Recreate Daily Performance Logs

Hi there,

I disabled the jobs in Task Sheduler to get rid of the logfiles. Now I wanted to reactivate the jobs but they are missing and I don´t know how to "install" them again.

Some said after rebooting the server, the jobs are automatically recreated, but that´s not the case on my server. Additionally I get Performance Counter errors, don´t know if these have anything to do with that.

It´s a test environment with an Exchange 2007 SP3 and Exchange 2013 SP1 CU6 (+ ActiveSync hotfix).

Has anybody an idea how to get the sheduled tasks available/working again?

exchange 2013 redundancy with edge transparent

Hello

we have one exchange 2010 and I am trying to upgrade to 2013 with failover.

we have about 300 users.

I have done research and this is what I think right way to do but to confirm.

I want to install CAS and mailbox on the same box and edge transparent in DMZ for OWA access.

everything will be dual.

1. install win 2012 R2 with exchange 2013 with CAS and mailbox roles on two boxes

2. install edge transparent role on two separate boxes which will be in DMZ

my questions are,

is there any other option than using hardware load balancer for CAS/mailbox failover?

is it recommended to use DAG or I have to use DAG, even if I use hardware load balancer?

for edge transparent failover, what is recommended direction i should go?

Thanks

Mail address lookup in shared hosting with multiple address lists setup

Hi, we have an Exchange 2013 environment for hosting purposes.

One client uses two seperate company names (and domain names). These companies are seperated in Exchange and use seperate address lists. This client uses mail between the two domains.

Let's say the domains are yin.com and yang.com. The users use Outlook Webmail and the Mac OSX builtin mailclient
The problem is that when kevin@yin.com sends email to bob@yang.com, Bob is able to receieve the mail, but the email-address from Kevin is not included in the mail. It is just listed as Kevin, without any property.

When Bob replies to the message from the OSX Mail client, it apparently tries to make up an address and generates something to the effect of this:
Kevin </o=Hosting Company/ou=Exchange Administrative Group /cn=Recipients/cn=*longnumber*>
This address is not correct and when sent, the email is bounced back with a NDR-report.

When Bob replies to the message from OWA, the address is simply the name with no email-address. This also results in an NDR report.

What can we do to make OWA or Mac mail keep the correct emailaddresses?

How do I setup a specific user to edit their department phone numbers?

We have and IT liaison in each department and I'd like them to be able to edit their own departments mailboxes attributes.  ie. phone numbers, title...

I was hoping they would be able to do this in Outlook by opening up the Address Book selecting the user, and changing their new phone number, title ...

What do I need to do to allow them to manage this task for their department only?

Cannot disable a mailbox in Exchange 2013 CU6!?!?!?!

I cannot disable a mailbox in Exchange 2013 CU6. I get the following error:

Anyone seen this error? As you know, I just want to remove the Exchange attributes from the user object in Active Directory. Of course, deleting the user object works just fine but don't want to go that route.

Get-MailboxSearch FileNotFound error

I'm seeing a very weird error when I try to run the cmdlet 'get-mailboxsearch'.  Also, when I create a new-mailboxsearch, it does not run but stays in status 'not started'.

This is an Exchange 2013 server UR6.

(PID 5500, Thread 50) Task Get-MailboxSearch throwing unhandled exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Exchange.Data, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

at System.Reflection.RuntimeAssembly._nLoad(AssemblyName fileName, String codeBase, Evidence assemblySecurity, RuntimeAssembly locationHint, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, IntPtr pPrivHostBinder, Boolean throwOnFileNotFound, Boolean forIntrospection, Boolean suppressSecurityChecks)
[...]

It seems to be preventing the command from running.

At different times, the only other cmdlet error is:

(Process w3wp.exe, PID 5500) "Unhandled exception 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' when processing request /powershell?PSVersion=2.0."

Any ideas?

Outlook Disconnected

Hi!

We have two Virtual Exchange 2010 Servers with DAG and Kemp Load Balancer. Many of our users are getting disconnected from Exchange when they move to other branches which are connected through VPN or even when they connect from internet. Outlook Web Access just works fine but MS Outlook 2010 tries to connect but cannot.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks.

Hello all,

My clients have a problem with delay delivery. If they delay the delivery then it goes into outbox. Here, however, he will stay in and not go out. No matter if outlook will remain open or closed.
Cached mode is disabled.

We use Outlook 2013 in conjunction with exchange server.

Could someone help me or need more information pls ask.

Exchange 2007 - ValidPorts key data keep reverting

Randomly on my exchange server (Exchange 2007 SP3 with Rollup 14 on Server 2008 R2, fully patched), the validports registry value data revert from the data I entered to the "default" data. The "default" values I'm describing are machinename:ports and fqdn:ports. I modify the data to include the external fqdn:ports. I'm not sure what's causing this, this has been happening for a while, though; i.e., since outlook anywhere was initially set up.

Moderator note: I couldn't put this topic into a non-exchange 2013 forum, as I was only presented with 2013 choices in the forum chooser. Please move this topic to the appropriate forum.

EDIT: I can't find any Tasks or items in RSOP that point to this issue. Also, I though this behavior was only present when I rebooted the system, but I just had the data revert after an hour of the system just sitting there.

EDIT: Outlook Anywhere was initially configured using the Exchange Management Console. In the console, if I go to server configuration -> Client Access, go to the server properties -> Outlook Anywhere tab, the External host name field is populated correctly.

EDIT: Found the answer at http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2008/06/20/3405633.aspx

Exchange Admin Center 2013 Console Slow

Greetings,

We have a multiple site organization and we have deploy Exchange 2013 Mailbox and CAS servers at these various location.  When we attempt to change, lets say EWS (Default Web Site) permissions from the Exchange Admin Console and select that remote sites CAS Server to bring up the EWS properties, it takes a good 5 minutes to populate the Authentication information.

However if we perform the same steps and select the local CAS server the information appears and populates fairly quickly.  We have fast connection between the two sites.  We have been having to resort to connecting to the remote sites server and perform the action from there.

I am curious if anyone else has experienced this slowness when attempting to make changes to remote site from the Exchange Admin console.

Cheers

In my environment I am having 2 MBX (DAG), 2 CAS (Load Balanced).

Whenever I try to change settings, for example URL for owa, the windows pop just hang there for a very long time, stating "Please wait".

Exchange platform is 2013 SP1 CU6.

Anyone with the similar problem?

Thanks and Regards,

Tuning Exchange 2013 HealthSet Monitors (example: MailboxTransport -> Mapi.Submit.Monitor)

Hello everyone,

I was hoping some of you could help me out a bit with the new monitors in Exchange 2013.

Especially after updating to CU6 we are getting a lot of warnings from SCOM with different HealthSets that show as unhealthy. These are usually “OK” again when we log on to the server and run Get-ServerHealth or Get-HealthReport. The most common healthset is Compliance, but also get warnings from MailboxTransport and ActiveSync.

If we do manage to log on before the healthset returns to healthy again, like in the example below, we can drill down a bit. We are however very unsure about what to do with this information. Perhaps we should change the threshold, but how do we find out exactly what this monitor is reporting on? We know it has something to do with Mapi Submit, and that the threshold is 8, but not much more than that?

Get-ServerHealth SERVER | where {($_.healthsetname -eq "mailboxtransport") -and ($_.alertvalue -eq "unhealthy")} | ft name,alertvalue -auto

LowLogVolumeSpaceMonitor

Hello

We use SCOM to monitor Exchange 2013. I always get the following alert:
Database 'MDB06' is low on log volume space. 'MDB06' is low on log volume space. Current=118.09 GB, Threshold=195.31 GB

Each Exchange database is on a different LUN. The transaction logs are on a separate LUN. That LUN has a capacity of 120GB and there are 118MB free diskspace.

I tried do an override:
Add-ServerMonitoringOverride -Server SRVEXCH01 -Identity DiskSpace\LowLogVolumeSpaceMonitor -ItemType Monitor -PropertyName MonitoringThreshold -PropertyValue ’20000’

But I still get this alert. I already spend hours to find a solution, without success.

How can I change this threshold to not always get this alert!!

Regards
Peter

Index state in database's details are:

Name                                                                Status          CQ        RQ                                ContentIndex
Mailbox Database 0788330323\SERVER00       Mounted         0         0                                  Failed

I've tried to delete index files under database's directory to force rebuild, but nothing.

Search services (Exchange search and MS Exchange search host controller) are running without errors.

Any ideas? Thanks

Exchange 2013 stops receiving external email after about 8 hours

Hello,

Just installed 2013 excahnge server 3 days ago. We noticed after the first night that we did not receive any external emails throughout the night.  I could not find anything wrong with receive connectors.  Telnet works internally when this happens but NO access from public side testing with telnet.  After I reboot the exchange server everything functions just fine and normal for about 8 hours until it happens again.

I dont know what to check or look for at this point.  Very new to exchange 2013.  Any kind of advice would be helpful at this time.

It is not a firewall issue.  Same firewall and set of rules that we use for other/old mail servers.  We only have 1 exchange server that has all roles.

Administration and EXC service seperated on two LAN interfaces?

We would like to keep administration and general service of Exchange Servers seperate on two different LAN interfaces "A" and "B" (on "dual home" machines i.e. machines with two network interfaces).

Is this feasible so that no administration can be performed on LAN Interface A, all regular Exchange Service runs over LAN Interface A and all administration has to be done over B?

Reasoning for this is security - only certain people and machines would be granted access to the management LAN.

Any ideas how this is best achieved?

Thanks in advance

ECP Links not working

Hello,

I have a Lab Server running Exchange 2013 SP1 CU5 on Windows Server 2012 R2. ECP/OWA work fine. But when I click on certain buttons on the Exchange configuration web page, the pages will not open. For example: I cannot Edit the email address in Public Folders and I cannot add a Smart Host in Send Connectors. Please note I did not have this problem on a fresh Install of both O/S and Exchange Server 2013 SP1 CU4. But after I did a fresh Install again of the O/S and Exchange 2013 SP1 CU4 I had the same problem of Exchange configuration web pages not opening on Exchange 2013 SP1 CU4. So the problem I faced was on both CU4 and CU5.

Some help would be useful.

Thank you.
