Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message: The connection to the specified remote host was refused

Hi. Hope someone can help me.

I had to install a new certificate on our 2013 exchange server.  After having a few issues, I managed to get the certificate working (I needed to run the following command.....

netsh winhttp import proxy ie

However, since then, when I try to run the Exchange Management Shell, I receive the following message....

Connecting to remote server <servername> failed with the following error message : The connection to the specified remote host was refused.  Verify that the WS-Management service is running on the remote host and configured to listen for reauesrs on the correct port and HTTP URL

If I run "winrm enumerate winrm/config/listener" from the command line I get....

Address = *
Transport = HTTP
Port = 5985
Hostname
Enabled = true
URLPrefix = wsman
CertificateThumbprint
ListeningOn = <exchange server IP address>,127.0.0.1,

Any ideas?  I definitely think it's got something to do with this certificate I've just installed.

Thanks in advance.

Mailbox quota emails not getting to all users

$

Hello

Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here as this is driving me insane.

Our client recently upgraded from Exchange 2003 to 2010 then from 2010 to 2013 (currently on SP1 CU5).

They use a mixture of Outlook clients from 2007 to 2013.

They have a mailbox database set with the following limits:

Warning: 512MB

Prohibit Send: 819MB

Prohibit Send/Receive: 1GB

There's approximately 40 users in this mailbox. Our client has noted that when users go over the warning limit not all receive the email notification informing them of this.

I've checked the notification in Exchange Powershell and 18 of 33 users who are well in excess of the warning quota (smallest been 700MB) have not received any quota email. The users are all in the same OU in AD, they all have the same group memberships, there's no rules blocking these messages on their account, they all have the same exchange delegation.

It doesn't make any sense as to why some users are receiving this and not others when effectively they are all the same. I know Exch 2013 runs quota notifications according to a flag on the account but as yet I haven't found any way to check which accounts have been flagged.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for/try regarding this as users keep going over the prohibit send quota limits and having trouble with emails as a result.

Any help appreciated.

Andy

Administrator Audit Log for Journal Configuration

$

I am trying to determine how journaling was configured in Exchange 2010.  It was set up in 2009/2010.  I need to know if it was set up to journal All messages, or just certain user's messages.  I also need to determine if it was set up to  journal just internal or external communications, or all communications.

So now it is 2014--is there any way to determine how journaling was set up in 2009?  The problem I have is that someone turned off journaling 6 months ago and they don't know how it was set up when they went in there to turn it off--they didn't pay attention to the settings.  But now I need to know how journaling was set up because I need to confirm that we were indeed capturing all inbound and outbound communications for all mailboxes.

Thanks!

New-Moverequest / user in subdomain

Hi there,

I'm migrating from a mixed Exchange 2007/2010 environment to Exchange 2013. The Domain contains a root, where the Exchange servers are placed. Users are spread through different subdomains. When I now want to migrate a user from a subdomain using the Exchange 2013 EAC, I get an error.

The operation couldn't be performed because object ''ef22e4fb-d633-47fd-9cf0-f7f44ba8125d' couldn't be found on 'DC.rootdomain.local'.

How can I move user mailoxes, which are located in subdomains?

Thanks.

Exchange 2013 CAS incorrectly proxying after mailbox move to Exchange 2013

$

Hi,

I am moving Exchange 2010 mailboxes to Exchange 2013 SP1 in production. When I move 2010 mailbox Outlook, OWA works fine right after the move but ActiveSync (HTTPProxy log shows on CAS 2013 server that it is still re-directing it to Exchange 2010 CAS servers). Exchange 2013 CAS server ActiveSync takes hours before it starts to see that mailbox is moved to Exchange 2013. I am certain it is not ActiveDirectory replication since all other clients are working.

This time I move another user this time it did not work for 3.5hrs.  I had to reboot Exchange 2013 CAS server after that it worked.

There is must be something that is not refreshing on Exchange 2013 CAS server.

Is there anything I can do right after the move to make it quick, I can not re-start server after every mailbox move.  Currently we are in Pilot mode and only moving few mailboxes at a time.

Thanks,

Raman

Exchange 2013 - Search SMTPReceive logs on CAS

$

Is there a sensible way to search the SMTP Receive protocol logs on the client access servers?  The Get-MessageTrackingLog cmdlet only searches the mailbox servers, but I need to be able to look at what's connecting to the CAS sometimes and manipulate those logs.  The transport logs are entirely too verbose for some of my needs.

I've been parsing the logs via PowerShell using some form of these piped commands I've put together, and it's certainly functional, but I can't help but feel that I'm doing things the hard way.

Get-ChildItem -Path 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\FrontEnd\ProtocolLog\SmtpReceive\*' -Include '*.LOG' |
Where-Object -Filter {$_.LastWriteTime -gt (Get-Date).AddDays(-1)} |
Sort-Object -Property 'LastWriteTime' |
Get-Content |
Where-Object -Filter {$_ -like '*,530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated,*'} |
ConvertFrom-Csv -Header 'date-time','connector-id','session-id','sequence-number','local-endpoint','remote-endpoint','event','data','context' |
ForEach-Object -Process {
    [void]($_.'local-endpoint' -match '(.*):([0-9]*)$')
    $lip = [IPAddress]$Matches[1]
    $lport = [Int]$Matches[2]
    [void]($_.'remote-endpoint' -match '(.*):([0-9]*)$')
    New-Object -TypeName PSObject -Property @{
        'date-time' = [datetime]$_.'date-time';
        'connector-id' = [string]$_.'connector-id';
        'session-id' = [string]$_.'session-id';
        'sequence-number' = [int]$_.'sequence-number';
        'local-endpoint' = [string]$_.'local-endpoint';
        'local-endpoint-ip' = $lip;
        'local-endpoint-port' = $lport;
        'remote-endpoint' = $_.[string]'remote-endpoint';
        'remote-endpoint-ip' = [IPAddress]$Matches[1];
        'remote-endpoint-port' = $rport = [Int]$Matches[2];

Unable to remove/update 96x96 UserPhoto

$

FIM 2010 is updating my users "thumbnailPhoto" with a 160x203 ~50kb image.

As standard Exchange 2013 cu2 then magically adds the image to the users mailbox if i have understand correctly.

I can see them in:

https://exchange2013.local/ews/Exchange.asmx/s/GetUserPhoto?email=user@contoso.com&size=HR96x96
https://exchange2013.local/ews/Exchange.asmx/s/GetUserPhoto?email=user@contoso.com&size=HR120x120
https://exchange2013.local/ews/Exchange.asmx/s/GetUserPhoto?email=user@contoso.com&size=HR240x240

The problem i have now is that the "96x96" is not updating to a new image when the user gets a new image in thumbnailphoto.

And i can't delete the photo with:
Remove-UserPhoto <email>
Remove-UserPhoto <username>
set-mailbox <username> -removepicture

The user variable is flushed, all image sizes but 96x96 gets removed. (all images arehowever 160x203 although youspecify that youwant adifferent resolution)

LOG:
Cmdlet suceeded. Cmdlet Remove-UserPhoto, parameters {Identity=<email>}.
Cmdlet suceeded. Cmdlet Set-Mailbox, parameters {RemovePicture=True, Identity=<email>}.

So im stuck with old HR96x96 images on my users, the image that shows in Exchange as standard.
Lync 2013 seems to use another size of the image, so everything works there.

EDIT:
The problem isonly occasionally,do not apply to all users

SmtpReceive Log Folder empty

Hello,

I have moved the Send and Receive protocol log paths on all of my Exchange 2013 servers.

The new SmtpSend and SmtpReceive directories have been created, but the SmtpReceive directory is emtpy on each server.

From what I can tell the logs are still being collected in the ExchangeServer\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\FrontEnd\ProtocolLog\SmtpReceive directory.

Why is this?

Verbose logging is enabled on all of the "FrontendTransport" role receive connectors.

Thanks

How to do that in 2010 EMC or 2013 EAC and what's its cmdlet for EMS?

Please Guide.

There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate (internal Outlook 2013 users)

I am receiving the above message for internal Outlook 2013 users when they open Outlook. Despite this message, Outlook is fully functional. External OA users do not see this message. We are using an SRV record for our autodiscover and pointing it to the name on the single cert we have. I've also already changed the outlookprovider record in Exchange. Any ideas?

TIA!

Exchange 2013 works great internally, but externally only revceives and cannot send emails

Hello,

It is a server 2012 running Exchange 2013 fresh install for testing purposes. Exchange set up was done with no error. Emails are ok internally, using OWA or phone under the same network or out of it, no problem with send and receive. IIS properly set up and both OWA and ESP working internally and externally.

But cannot send emails to other domains, externally. Even though still receives emails from any external domains. Telnet is working properly, connections are ok, ports are properly taken care of (used to be 25, same thing, changed it to 587 in case ISP blocking 25 but no success).

How to set up rules for shared mailbox in Exchange 2013?

$
0
0

Exchange 2013 provides the ability to set up shared mailboxes. How can rules (e.g. for sorting inbound mail automatically) be managed for these shared mailboxes? With earlier versions of Exchange, it was possible to log in to the shared mailbox with Outlook, and set up the rules there. The new Exchange 2013 shared mailboxes cannot be logged into. Does this mean that rules cannot be defined for shared mailboxes anymore?

from technet: "Shared mailboxes are a type of user mailbox that don’t have their own user name and password, so users can’t log into it them directly."

Health Mailbox generating a lot of logs

I have noticed that my health mailboxes generate a ton of logs.  Even during slow times, they generate about 1G per hour and during production hours about 2-4G per hour.  When I run the following PS commands, the MailboxGUID is associated with one of the health mailboxes.  Is this normal?  What would cause this?

Migrate exchange from single forest to resource forest

$

0

Hi guys,

After read a lot of articles about this, I still not link those on my scenario. So if someone can help I'll appreciated

So, Today I have 2 ad forests, let's call those abc.com and xyz.com, where I don't have trust relationship.

abc.com

2 Domain controllers 2008 R2 and 1 on premise exchange 2010 SP3 infrastructure with DAG, HUB and CAS 2 of each.

All users accounts has one or more mailboxes

xyz.com

2 domain controllers 2012 R2 and 1 Single sign on tenant on office 365 academic

All users accounts has one mailboxes

What I need to do?

Some users from abc.com need to be moved to xyz.com, also this users still need to acces resource on both forests.

In the future, users on abc.com will use hibrid deployment on exchange with office 365 on a different tenant, something like a enterprise plan.

So I read a lot about resource forest and I think that my objective can be reach with follow cenario.

Create a resource domains, let's call that resource.local

Resource.local will be my resource domain and will have exchange 2013 sp1, lync server 2013, some sites like intranet and some systems that will be shared in two other domains.

Is it right?

What I need to know?

So when I move all accounts from current exchange on abc.com to resource.local, I will be change this linked account to users moved on xyz.com domain?

After that It will be possible to move this accounts to office 365 academic tenant, and have all mailboxes of this domain there?

Is it possible to administer accademic tenant on exchange management console to xyz.com just for management?

Academic tenant xyz.domain will still continue with sso setup, or I will need to change something?

In the future will be possible to create an another hibrid deployment to abc.com and move some mailboxes to office 365 enterprise in a new tenant?

Will be possible activate sso on abc.com to office 365 enterprise tenant?

If one of you have another ideas or need more information to give me some tips I'll be glad to hear

Sorry for my bad english

Exchange 2010 data grwoth

My company migrate to exchange 2010 for sometime, but we found that the exchange data keep growing

E.g. One of the DB around is around 290 GB now, has been growing in 5GB per month for 1+ year.

I can see the mail DB has record full back lately, the log is purge.

When I dig into the mail DB, I can see some mailbox is having huge "TotalDeletedItemSize"; say mailbox is less than 100MB have 1G TotalDeletedItemSize.

Is there anything about to do with backup exec or exchange serveritself did not clean up these hug items.

Thank you
