The SMTP availability of the Receive connector

$

Hi,

I'm looking for some guidance on this if possible.  We've rolled out our first Exchange 2013 environment and we're receiving the following event log entries:

Log Name:      Application
Source:        MSExchangeTransport
Date:          04/06/2013 10:19:13
Event ID:      1040
Task Category: SmtpReceive
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      PRMAI61V.supervadnet.com
Description:
The SMTP availability of the Receive connector Default was low (98 percent) in the last 15 minutes.
Event Xml:
<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
  <System>
    <Provider Name="MSExchangeTransport" />
    <EventID Qualifiers="49156">1040</EventID>
    <Level>2</Level>
    <Task>1</Task>
    <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords>
    <TimeCreated SystemTime="2013-06-04T09:19:13.000000000Z" />
    <EventRecordID>1556697</EventRecordID>

    <Security />
  </System>
  <EventData>
    <Data>Default</Data>
    <Data>98</Data>
  </EventData>
</Event>

I don't appear to see any issues with this however I don't fully understand what it's trying to tell me?

Essentially I want to stop it alerting out of hours and waking up our on call engineers.

Any advice/explanations would be welcome.

How to set up rules for shared mailbox in Exchange 2013?

$
0
0

Exchange 2013 provides the ability to set up shared mailboxes. How can rules (e.g. for sorting inbound mail automatically) be managed for these shared mailboxes? With earlier versions of Exchange, it was possible to log in to the shared mailbox with Outlook, and set up the rules there. The new Exchange 2013 shared mailboxes cannot be logged into. Does this mean that rules cannot be defined for shared mailboxes anymore?

from technet: "Shared mailboxes are a type of user mailbox that don’t have their own user name and password, so users can’t log into it them directly."

OWA premium not working, only light

$

I enabled OWA light by running this command in EMS:

 Set-OWAVirtualDirectory –LogonPageLightSelectionEnabled $true

I also enabled public/private computer selection.

Then I tried to use iisreset /noforce to force the changes, but it didn't work so I used iisreset instead.  After that, OWA no longer worked.  I get this page after logging in:

I tried restarting the server but it didn't help.  Then I disabled the light version and public/private computer selection and restarted again but it still doesn't work.  I also tried reseting the OWA virtual directory and then restarting, but no luck.

What I've noticed is that it WILL work on IE11, as this FORCES the light version.

I don't see anything in the event logs related to this, and this is all I see in the IIS logs:

POST /owa/service.svc action=GetOwaUserConfiguration 443 pjdist\nmuleski 10.100.10.53 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+6.1;+WOW64;+Trident/6.0;+SLCC2;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+3.5.30729;+.NET+CLR+3.0.30729;+.NET4.0C;+.NET4.0E;+InfoPath.3) 500 0 64 124

If anybody could help me out I'd greatly appreciate it!

Ex2007 -> Ex2013 Migration - Change in Send Connector = Transport.ServerCertMismatch.Monitor

$

I am in the final stages of a 2007->2013 migration that has gone very well.  I was just about to move my Send Connector over to the Exchange 2013 side when my monitors alarmed that "Transport.ServerCertMismatch.Monitor" had gone unhealthy.

There is not a whole lot of information out there, but I did find this in each of the MBX logs:

Microsoft Exchange could not find a certificate that contains the domain name mail.domain.com in the personal store on the local computer. Therefore, it is unable to support the STARTTLS SMTP verb for the connector Internet e-mail with a FQDN parameter of mail.domain.com. If the connector's FQDN is not specified, the computer's FQDN is used. Verify the connector configuration and the installed certificates to make sure that there is a certificate with a domain name for that FQDN. If this certificate exists, run Enable-ExchangeCertificate -Services SMTP to make sure that the Microsoft Exchange Transport service has access to the certificate key.

I checked my SAN and I do have mail.domain.com in it.  I also confirmed that the Send Connector was using mail.domain.com as its HELO/EHLO reply.  I have cycled the service and that did not seem to help either.  Mail will still flow in my testing, but I do not like unhealthy statuses so I would prefer to fix it.

Thoughts?

Find Databases that are not in a healthy or disabled Content Index State.

I am working on trying to put together a Powershell command to give me a list of the databases that have a Content Index State that is not Disabled or not Healthy.

$databases | Get-MailboxDataBaseCopyStatus |?{($_.status -eq "Mounted") -and ($_.ContentIndexState -ne "Healthy" -or $_.ContentIndexState -ne "Disabled")}

This does not work.  I would assume you can use the -or but so far haven't figured it out.

Microsoft Outlook 2013 - Setting rules for personal mail to go into shared mailbox subfolders

$

Am having issues trying to set a rule for mail from specific senders in my personal email to be directed into subfolders of a shared mailbox that is added to my Outlook account.

When you try to do so you encounter the error message 'object could not be found'.

Just to save answers that are not relevant being posted:

- I have full permissions to said shared mailbox

- This IS NOT possible to do via OWA on Outlook 2013 as it will not display any additional mailboxes

- It is not a replication issue as this has been going on for a few days now and there is not that many servers!

- You cannot log on to a shared mailbox in Outlook 2013

If you havent used this product, please dont bother posting as your thoughts are as useful as me stopping a random person in the street. Outlook 2013 is a very different beast to previous versions!

Hello,

i have 20 DBs in a DAG. And for 5 days both! content indexes failed.

I tried to recreate it on the passive server stopping the services and deleting the folders but it does not work. I will try the contentsubmitters group this evening (because this is very cpu consuming).

If that doesn't work what else can i do ?

Best regards

Mailbox Database dismounts Every day

Ever since migrating a server from Exchange 2007 to a new Exchange 2013 server I've had this problem whereby the Mailbox "unexpectedly" dismounts every day at about the same time.

I've seen a similar thread on the issue here though this didn't seem to get resolved (title Exchange 2013 database dismounts unexpectedly).

The error seems to get about 7 minutes later every day though I can't see what if any jobs might be running to cause this.

The MailboxDatabaseFailureItems throws up between 3 and 5 messages showing the below:

At the time of the DB failure this message is given in the application eventlog, though the log files it mentions are never there:

3 minutes later I get this message:

When I look up the Mailbox with the Guid 1705f1bb-0e04-4cef-959a-a896443c1cd8 I find that this is a mailbox called "Microsoft Exchange".  It isn't connected and contains few items.

I've tried looking around to find out anywhere what this mailbox may do but can't find anything but I can see that other Exchange Servers have this account from both looking at other clients and noticing it listed in other forum posts on screen shots.

The Legacy DN given for it is:

/o=domain/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=c833be3f23fc4b73b99342e81ca4076c-SystemMa...

However when I look in Adsiedit I don't find a recipients CN under that location.

I've tried removing the mailbox but then I get this error

Any Ideas?

"Office 365 Mailbox" missing for users that are member of Ricipent Management role

Hi,

I have a hybrid setup with Office 365 and one exchange 2013 standard server on-premises.

I currently have an issue with that I have a button after pressing the + under recipient to create a Office 365 mailbox from the ECP, but users that are members of the Recipient Management role don't have that button visible.

What extra permissions are required to be able to create an Office 365 mailbox from the on-premises Exchange?

Since Exchange 2013 CU6 update Activesync Clients hitting throttling policy limit

I noticed something odd was going on when my IIS logs files on my mailbox servers blew up over the past week and a half since we installed the CU6 update. We went from an average of 400mb log file daily to over 2gb!  What I'm seeing in the log file now are tons of Global Throttling Policy messages.  Did something change with the Global Throttling Policy from 2013 SP1 to 2013 CU6?

Providing administrator(s) full mailbox access to all mailboxes (database) not working

$

I'm setting up a new Exchange 2013 org.  Everything is pretty fresh, only a few mailboxes have been added for testing.

I've added this permission, to provide full access to all the mailboxes in the database:

Get-MailboxDatabase -identity “Mailbox Database” | Add-ADPermission -user netadmin -AccessRights GenericAll -ExtendedRights Receive-As, Send-As
.
I've verified the permission in ADSI Edit.

I have verified the permission in the recipient's mailbox delegation properties.

However, while logged into OWA using the admin account, if I try to open another user's mailbox from OWA, I just get a sad face that says "Something went wrong :( " .

Any ideas? I've tried resetting the owa virtual directory...reset IIS, rebooted several times, no luck.

Thanks

I'd like to create a global monitoring override for DiskSpace\LowLogVolumeSpaceMonitor.  Is this required to be a minimum size value, percentage or other?

This is what I've tried, but the end result is that I still receive alerts in OpsMgr that the threshold is 190GB:

Add-GlobalMonitoringOverride -Identity DiskSpace\LowLogVolumeSpaceMonitor -ItemType Monitor -PropertyName MonitoringThreshold -PropertyValue ’100000’ -Duration 30.00:00:00

Add-GlobalMonitoringOverride -Identity DiskSpace\LowLogVolumeSpaceMonitor -ItemType Monitor -PropertyName MonitoringThreshold -PropertyValue ’100GB’ -Duration 30.00:00:00

Editing Transport Rule error

$

Hi,

We are using Exchange 2013 with the CU6 update recently applied.  Since this update we are getting this error when editing some transport rules - After the edit (add or remove a domain name to a cannot sent to rule) then Clicking SAVE The error reported: A word specified for a transport rule must contain at least one non-blank character and may not begin or end with a blank character. A word that consists of only blank spaces isn't allowed.

Reading this error - I can verify there are no blanks anywhere - and all looks good when you look up the rule via powershell.

The only edit you can really do is change the name.  This is allowed but it seems when adding / removing a name from the rule the error is reproduced.  We have been happy maintaining this for months, and it has only recently come about.  The only real change was our update to CU6.

Anyone able to advice?
