OWA/ECP Monitoring 401 after CU2

$

We are running mixed Exchange 2010 SP3 and Exchange 2013 CU2.  Was previously on CU1.  After installing CU2, the monitors for OWA and ECP failing with 401.  Both are working fine for users, and monitoring was working fine on CU1.  Looking at the log its just a 401 for every test on OWA and ECP.  From the log:

We would like to migrate our Exchange 2010 environment to Exchange 2013. we currently use the Exchange 2013 server only with test mailboxes and to receive mail from outside the company. but since we changed it,  the following event log messages appeared in the monitoring log.

The total number of messages in shadow queues exceeds 75000

but when we check the queue in the exchange toolbox we can't see any messages in one the Shadow queue's.

further we don't have any problems with sending or receiving mails.

How can we resolve this issue.

how to grant Admistrators and NetworkService full access to ContentSubmitters group ?

Hello Everyone, I am trying to follow this guide here :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2807668?wa=wsignin1.0

how can I grant Admistrators and NetworkService full access to the group?

the group is on Active Directory , NetworkService I assume is a local exchange server account ?

I am missing something here ..please help... Thanks.

=======

Method 1

  1. Create a new Active Directory group that is named "ContentSubmitters," and then grant Admistrators and NetworkService full access to the group. This is a dummy group and should be used as a placeholder only. You might want to add a description so that the group is not removed.
  2. Force or wait for Active Directory replication.
  3. Restart the following services:
    • Microsoft Exchange Search
    • Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller

Exchange 2013 CU1 Outlook Web App LogOff with Basic or Windows Integrated Authentication

$

Hi all,

Exchange 2013 CU1 has a new OWA LogOff behaviour when Basic or Windows Integrated Authentication is configured. When clicking the LogOff Button you receive the message "Close All your Browser Windows.." but OWA does not sign out. This is not the case when using Formbased Authentication...

The problem in our case is the OWA publishing over the Internet via TMG. When publishing via TMG, only Basic and NTLM authentication is supported. This means you have to change the Authentication for the OWA Virtual Directory to basic or Windows Integrated. OK so far, now we can use the TMG Authentication Form. but... TMG is not able to Catch the OWA LogOff. So we will still receive "Close all your Browser Settings.." and no log out from OWA.

It is a known issue that TMG cannot catch the OWA Logoff with the Exchange 2013 CU1 Release..So my Question:Does anyone get that "Real LogOut" fixed via TMG or directly on the CAS Server for Exchange 2013 CU1?

I know another possibility is to activate Form Based Authentication on the CAS Servers and external users directly authenticate against the CAS Server without pre-authentication at TMG Level, but this of course does not provide the highest security we can have.

How do I add a role that will allow me to export mailbox?

$

As per title.

I want to use the New-MailboxExportRequest command in the EMS
I tried the New-ManagementRoleAssignment -Role "Mailbox import export" -User "myusername" which seemed to execute OK.
I logged out and back in and did a Get-Command -Name "*MailboxExport*" and the new option is not listed just the Resume option.
The resume option is pretty useless if I cannot issue the New request in the first place!

Anyone got any idea what I am doing wrong?

Many thanks

How to remove 10k mailboxes Exchange 2013 (not AD users) with powershell

$

Hiya,

I've got a pollution of 10k mailboxes in my Exchange 2013. I would like to remove them in the fastest way and that is imo through powershell. Problem is that I am not the best powershell user out there and I need to save 3 mailboxes out the whole 10472 mailboxes...

The mailboxes have never been used and none of 10472 users have logged in yet.

I was thinking of using :

Get-MailboxStatistics | where {$_.LastLogonTime -lt (get-date).addDays(-90)} | Disable-Mailbox

but I don't think this would work...

Some help would be much appreciated.

Exchange 2013 stops receiving external email after about 8 hours

Hello,

Just installed 2013 excahnge server 3 days ago. We noticed after the first night that we did not receive any external emails throughout the night.  I could not find anything wrong with receive connectors.  Telnet works internally when this happens but NO access from public side testing with telnet.  After I reboot the exchange server everything functions just fine and normal for about 8 hours until it happens again.

I dont know what to check or look for at this point.  Very new to exchange 2013.  Any kind of advice would be helpful at this time.

It is not a firewall issue.  Same firewall and set of rules that we use for other/old mail servers.  We only have 1 exchange server that has all roles.

Temp and Mail.que growing very large

For some reason the mail.que file in my TransportRoles\data\Queue folder is growing and is currently over 14.5gb, and the temp folder has files dating back 7 months and has grown to about 15gbs. I didn't see any events in the event logs that could be causing it. Any idea on how to shrink these directories back down to normal? It looks like something that should be pruning them is not working.

Built-in domain Administrator account not given full access to new Exchange 2013 server

I migrated from Exchange 2010 to 2013 over the weekend.  I cannot log into the EAC with my domain administrator account I use to log into all my other servers.  I also cannot run the clean-mailboxdatabase cmdlet logged in as this user.  I had no trouble moving mailboxes from the old server to the new server with this account though.

This account is a member of: Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins, Exchange Full Admin, Exchange Organization Admin, Organization Management, Schema Admins, Server Management.

I can log into the EAC with another admin account that has the same memberships as the Administrator account.

I tried giving the account the role of "Databases" as suggested by others to fix the clean-mailboxdatabase issue but that did not work for me either.

The Administrator mailbox has been moved to the new database on the Exchange 2013 server.  The Exchange 2010 has been decommissioned and is turned off.

Exchange 2013 Monitoring Mailboxes

I'm running exchange 2013 and it seems to have problems with health mailboxes (monitoring mailboxes). I have 5 mailbox databases on this server, DB1, DB2, DB3, DB4 and DB5.

I know there are 2 health mailboxes per mailbox database.

The command `Get-Mailbox -monitoring | Get-MailBoxStatistics` shows that several of these have not been accessed since December, even though they are in mounted Databases and powershell shows they are healthy.

There is also 2 health mailboxes that are missing from the below output because I got warninings saying these mailboxes have not been logged into yet.

I am also getting a lot of queued messages in the inboundproxy.com queue that have the subject line "Undelieverable: Inbound Proxy Probe". I dont know how to get these to stop. I just have to clean out the queue once a day to prevent it from getting to large.

The last thing I notice is that I get a lot of audit errors in the event log when the system is trying to login to these mailboxes. That might be what is causing the issue. Here is one of the messages:

This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted.

The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe.

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).

The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.

The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.

The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.

-----

As you can see, the system can not login to to this health mailbox account. The one in my example one of the mailboxes that has not been logged into since december.

Is there anywhere to troubleshoot these? or possibly rebuild them? The is a huge lack of documentation on these mailboxes from microsoft, I  can not find any commands to interact with these other then 'get-mailbox -monitoring'

Exchange Server 2013 Mailbox - High CPU Usage

The process Microsoft.Exchange.Store.Worker consumes most of the CPU utilization.

Have anyone encountered this issue? How were you able to resolve it?

Thanks

Create new user with mailbox

Hi all,

been serching and testing some script for creating new user from Exchange powershell. So far the following have been working partially as wanted:

New-Mailbox -UserPrincipalName Firstname.Lastname@contoso.com -Alias firlastn -Database "Mailbox Database 1" -Name FirstnameLastname -FirstName Firstname -LastName LastName -DisplayName "Lastname, Firstname" -ResetPasswordOnNextLogon $true

The part not working is:

  • Under account tab in AD, where  i wish that User logon name (pre-windows 2000) should be same as alias (first 3 letter in firstname and 5 first letter in lastname).
  • Under profile path in AD i wish that  home folder connects to P: drive and path to the p: drive
  • Add user member of certain DL or other groups.

Is this possible without 3rd part application and purely from Exchange powershell?

Thanks!

  • Both in de same netwerk/subnet on the same AD site

Here is my issue:

When I start the move from the GUI of Exchange 2013 An error occured (see log below) at 95% at the status Cleanup. After 481 retries the migrate give the status 'Completed with Warnings'. The users mailbox is working on the Exchange 2013 both I can't open the Personal Archive. When I want to open my archive in the webmail the message 'Your archive appears to be unavailable. Please try again later' occurres.
