Exchange using wrong certificate, that is NOT enabled for SMTP.

$

Hello,

We have two Exchange 2013 servers, builds are 847.32 and 995.29 acting both the same. Config is for the most part identical. There are one cert issued by private CA intended for use with IIS (OWA, etc.), which have our mail server's fqdn in the subject and many alternate names (for autodiscover).  There also are certificate with only fqdn subject, issued by public CA (Thawte), intended for external SMTP only. Everything worked until we had to reissue our private-signed certs to add some more alternate names.

Now exchange seems not to care about what services are selected with Enable-ExchangeCertificate,as it is stated in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb430748%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx

"

The certificate selection process searches for all certificates in the certificate store that have a matching FQDN. From this list, the certificate selection process identifies a list of eligible certificates. Eligible certificates must meet the following criteria:

    • The certificate is an X.509 version 3 or a later version certificate.

    • The certificate has an associated private key.

    • The Subject or Subject Alternate Name fields contain the FQDN that was retrieved in step 3.

    • The certificate is enabled for SSL/TLS use. Specifically, the SMTP service has been enabled for this certificate by using theEnable-ExchangeCertificate cmdlet.

Examining the logs, i see that exchange is using certificate with serial number matching our private-issued cert. Get-ExchangeCertificate confirms there is NO SMTP service assigned to that cert, and never have been.

Question: How can I force exchange to use our public cert for SMTP? Changing fqdn of receive connector is not an option. Reissuing public cert, so it has later "Valid from" costs money and wont really solve anything, cause we  are likely mess with private cert later on some more times, getting in the same problems yet again.  Thank you for reading all that wall-o-text.

Exchange delegation federation certificate expired

$

Hi,

We use hybrid solution in the company. We use only ADC (ad connect, and HCW), we do not have ADFS or WAP.The last few days we have a problem with the mail flow , as follow:

CLOUD to/from CLOUD = OK (our slovakrail.sk domain)

CLOUD to EXT.DOMAIN = OK

CLOUD from EXT. DOMAIN = OK

CLOUD from ONPREM = FAIL – email address is no longer valid – NDR 550.5.1.10

ON PREM to/from ON PREM = OK

ON PREM to EXT.DOMAIN = OK

ON PREM from EXT.DOMAIN = FAIL – NDR 550.5.1.10

ON PREM to CLOUD = OK

I noticed that the certificate on the local servers expired(exchange delegation federation).I found thisinstructionshttps://robsteuer.wordpress.com/2017/02/22/renewing-the-exchange-federation-certificate/, but it is obviously a instrucions if the certificate has not yet expired. Is there any possibility to renew the certificate without having to disrupt the federation?
On local servers I see an expired certificate, but at the same time new certificates(on each server different number, I do not know why). But, F flag has only the expired certificate. Is it possible to change F flag to some other valid certificate, or whatis a process renew it. Ideal, without disrup federation.

Here its a state of local servers

Thanks!

I am constantly getting this error at least once a day. When I log into the server I cannot ping the DC or open the ECP. The only solution to get my Exchange 2013 Server back up and running is to shutdown and restart.

I plan on updating the firmware and drivers on my HP Proliant DL360 (Microsoft Tech suggestion).

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Is it possible for a user in Exchange 2013 to send emails to a group and the recipients see the group email address instead of the sender's actual email address? I added the actual sender in 'send on behalf of' but the receiver still see the actual sender address.

Thanks.

IsExcludedFromProvisioningBySpaceMonitoring

$

Hello all,

Last week we have the problem that new mailboxdatabase not automatically were assigned to a database
"Load balancing failed to find a valid mailbox database".

I figured out that this problem was caused because there were no databases for provisioning. All the database were exclude from the provisioning-process. But when I make the database available again, half an hour later we had the same problem, because of Space Monitoring. With all databases the "IsExcludedFromProvisioningBySpaceMonitoring" parameter was set to "True".
We have added more free space to the disk which contain the mailboxdatabases; now the databases are available again. So the problem is solved.

The only thing I couldn't figure out is how SpaceMonitoring works. Is there documentation available; when searching the internet I could not find it.
And what is the threshold for the "IsExcludedFromProvisioningBySpaceMonitoring"; what is the percentage when the parameter is triggered and set to "True" by Exchange?

I hope someone here can help me with this!

Kind regards,
Arjan

Removing ECP from External

$

I am trying to restrict External ECP access, after I set -AdminEnabled $false I am still able to connect to the ecp external

We do have ADFS in front of it, not sure if that matters.

- Added two new ips

- Added the records to DNS

-Created the new virtual directories

- Set-Ecpvirtualdirectory -Identity "Cas\ECP (Default Web Site)" -AdminEnabled $false

iisreset /noforce

and I am still able to access everything externally, granted you still have to authenticate it's still a problem that needs to be resolved.

Any help on this would be great. We are using two CAS servers and then instead of standing up a third one I just added the two new ips and set that directory ecp to -Adminenabled $false figured no big deal but its still not working.
