Intermittent Event IDs 4010 & 2213
Hello. My organisation has one forest containing two domains. The two domains correspond to two different geographical locations.
In the domain I manage, I have two Exchange 2013 CU7 Standard servers in a DAG. Both servers have both the CAS and Mailbox roles installed. The servers are running Server 2012 Standard. The two servers are on different subnets. One server, which is usually our active mailbox server, is at our primary data centre. The other server is at a standby data centre. The two sites are separated by a WAN link.
The other domain in the forest has one Exchange 2007 server, as well as two Exchange 2013 CU7 servers in a DAG.
On the Exchange servers in the domain I administer, an Event ID 4010 and an Event ID 2213 error will, intermittently, be logged at the same time. This happens only on the server that holds the passive copy of the Exchange databases.
The source of the Event ID 4010 errors is listed as MSExchange Messaging Policies. The following is an example of the start of one of those very long error messages.
Transport engine failed to evaluate condition due to Filtering Service error. The rule is configured to ignore errors. Details: 'Organization: '' Message ID '<f1e9948247ce43b98c6d7c03bdc213dc@serverFQDN>' Rule ID '03c1629b-6112-441b-83e4-3a6d70ee1701' Predicate 'isInternal' Action ''. FilteringServiceFailureException Error: Microsoft.Exchange.MessagingPolicies.Rules.FilteringServiceFailureException: FIPS text extraction failed with error: 'Scan request timed out: STREAMS
The source of the Event ID 2213 error is FIPFS (Filtering Management Service). The following is an example of the Event ID 2213 error.
A scan request timed out. ID={745d17ec-b298-47ea-8058-3f1c3499b404}, WorkloadID=<f1e9948247ce43b98c6d7c03bdc213dc@serverFQDN>, PID=8944
Running Get-ContentFilterConfig | fl shows that the filtering has the default settings, as shown below.
Enabled : False
ExternalMailEnabled : True
InternalMailEnabled : False
Our organisation has a third party malware scanning system. That system is managed by the administrators of the other domain in the forest. They are also responsible for general forest-wide operations. Because of the third party system, I don’t believe that our organisation actually needs the Exchange content filtering, but if it can be left with the default settings without causing the problems identified in the errors I have reported, that would probably be ideal.
If you have any insights into the cause of these errors, and how to resolve them, please share them with me. Thanks.
Running Exchange 2013 on Multiple Forest
Dear Experts
We are on test lab running Two Virtual Machines (VM1, VM2) using VMware workstation, on top of that we installed Domain controller with windows server 2012R2 on VM1 and VM2, then we have linked them together using static routing, then we built trust relation from VM1 toward VM2 one way trust using Active Directory Trust and services. VM1 on one forest(client.com.tr) and VM2 on another separated forest (server.com.tr). the Forest and domain functional level for both is windows server2012R2.
Now We are planning to install Exchange 2013 on VM2 which is on ( server.com.tr) forest, but at the same we would like to allow users from (client.com.tr) to Access that exchange which is in another forest.
the question is
1-How can we implement that step-by-step procedure?
2- Is there any Pre or Post configuration ?
Exchange 2010 and Office 365 - New Federation trust creation fails with timeout
Hi everyone.
I encounter an issue while creating a federation trust with the hybrid configuration tool.
When I try to create the federation trust, I have the following error : " Unable to access the Federation metadata document from the federation partner. Detailled information "the operation has timed out".
I don't use any proxy to go on internet. My domain is valid on Office365 portal (I didn't create all DNS records for the moment).
I don't see more errors.
Can someone knows what is the problem?

Exchange showing email Alias that is non-existant in AD
Our Active Directory users are synced with 0365 Exchange, there is one user showing an alias in Exchange but they do not have an alias setup in AD. I can't remove the alias in exchange, when I try it gives me the following error:
"The operation on mailbox "Angie Smith failed because it's out of the current user's write scope. The action 'Set-Mailbox', 'EmailAddresses', can't be performed on the object 'Angie Smith' because the object is being synchronized from
your on-premises organization. This action should be performed on the object in your on-premises organization."
So I open AD and check the proxyaddress setting in Attributes for that user, it's set up properly showing SMTP:asmith@b2board.com
There is no other alias setup for that user in active directory - i'm not sure where exchange is getting the alias from.
In exchange, when I drill down to the email address properties of the mailbox, it shows SMTP:asmith@b2board.com and a line under it showing smtp:esmith@b2board.com
There is an "e" instead of an "a" for her first name.
I'm not sure where else to look or how to get rid of the alias that is not supposed to exist. Help please?
Publish Public Folder Calendar Online - How? [Exchange 2013]
I've been trawling the web trying to find out how to 'Publish Online' a Public Folder Calendar but have had no joy.
Public folder Calendar created (Exchange 2013). Read permission given to anonymous, myself & a couple of others as authors.
I need to get to the point where I have the ics link for the calendar.
The info I have been able to find says to browse to the Calendar in public folders, right-click it, go to 'Share' then 'Publish this Calendar'.
As soon as I do this I get the following error:
Can anyone help here please?
Clean up transaction logs
In our environment we have two CAS servers and two Mailbox servers.
We have five mailbox databases on the two mailbox servers. Each server has a copy of the databases.
Each mailbox server has a drive dedicated to log files. Twice these drives have become full and caused issues with email.
My understanding is that these log files should be "purged" after a full back but that does not appear to be happening.
While I am working on troubleshooting the backup issue I was wondering what the best way would be to clean up the logs so that the drive does not become full again. Can I just delete the files or is there a better way to clean them up? I want to do this in the safest way possible.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Distribution group created using ADSI not visible in OWA and outlook (showInAddressBook/AddressListMembership property is empty)
Hi All - I am creating a distribution group using ADSI directly in Active Directory and I am not using powershell cmdlet 'New-DistributionGroup'.
I am populating all the required properties when creating. When i execute 'Get-DistributionGroup' cmdlet, I can see the new one I just created. But it is not shown in OWA/Outlook.
I compared a distribution group created using ADSI against the one created using PowerShell cmdlet 'New-DistributionGroup' - the only difference I see is w.r.t property 'AddressListMembership'.
Distribution Group created using ADSI has not value (it is empty) but the group created using powershell has some value. They look like below
My questions are:-
- How value for 'AddressListMembership' added automatically when created using powershell?
- How do I provide value to this while creating using ADSI ?
- Should I provide value to this using corresponding AD attribute 'showInAddressBook' ?
Please help - Thanks!
Management tools can't connect to server with error WinRMHttpError,PSSessionOpenFailed
Hello everyone!
I've been trying to restore MT console for days on our Exchange Server. It broke after we downgraded the 2012 R2 server from Datacenter to Standard. (Licensing issues)
We have Exchange 2013 SP1. After the downgrade even Toolbox was failing, but I managed to get it back on by reinstalling prerequisites. But the console still fails with such error:
New-PSSession : [serverNameHere] Сбой подключения к удаленному серверу cof-exchange.m-oil.local. Сообщение об
ошибке: WinRM-клиент получил состояние "Ошибка сервера" (ошибка HTTP 500), но удаленная служба не предоставила других сведений о причине сбоя. Подробности см. в разделе справки "about_Remote_Troubleshooting".
строка:1 знак:1
+ New-PSSession -ConnectionURI "$connectionUri" -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Excha ...
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : OpenError: (System.Manageme....RemoteRunspace:RemoteRunspace) [New-PSSession], PSRemotin
gTransportException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : WinRMHttpError,PSSessionOpenFailed
I digged all the reasons, that were suggested on google, I checked IIS Powershell pool, backend certificates, tested PS Remoting and launched winrm quickconfig. Nothing helps. I even launched EMTShooter, and it says everything is OK, but drops the same error on some step in the middle (it still thinks that everything is OK btw :)) .
I am still able to run powershell and launch Add-PSSnapin -Name Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010 but I suspect I need to fix this issue too.
The reason to do this is that we need to move some databases to another drive since our current drive is almost out of free space.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

New-MailboxExportRequest - Not Working when selecting specific folder
Hello,
I am using the new-MailboxExportRequest command to export only the "Contacts" folder. It is not working.

eDiscovery search all or a large quantity of mailboxes failing
Hi all,
I've got issues searching a big quantity of mailboxes via eDiscovery. They are not even close to the 10k limit (approx. 1000) and the error messages is below:
eDiscovery search is limited to searching DiscoveryMaxMailboxes mailboxes at a time. Please separate large searches into groups of DiscoveryMaxMailboxes or fewer ailboxes |
On the mailbox server you can see this happening:
ID: 3014 Source: MSExchange Mid-Tier Storage
and then lots of this unregistered error:
The Exchange organisation is a simple server. If I reduce the number of mailboxes the search goes fine.
Any hints?
Thanks,

Finding out what kind of protocol mailboxes are being accessed over
We have a lot of users who have their email accounts setup on their iPhones using the "Exchange" option, and that's the only way they access their email; while we have other users who use their PCs as well and access their email using Outlook over the domain. I need to get a summary of who's using what to access their email, and I was hoping to get it using powershell.
As far as I can tell, I can use Get-LogonStatistics along with some filters to try and achieve this, but I don't know what protocols both the iPhone mail app or Outlook would be using to access mailboxes to try and filter for it. When I use that command bare, the list I get says nothing about the protocol either. Is there a better way to get this info?
Thanks
Exchange Managed Availability - multiple monitors/probes in unhealthy state
Hi,
We have recently started receiving many alerts regarding unhealthy Exchange health sets. We have done some health check using
Test-ExchangeServerHealth.ps1 PowerShell script (From <https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Generate-Health-Report-for-19f5fe5f>)
which performs a series of tests. All Exchange servers showing healthy state. And There were no issues reported from end users.
Here's a screenshot of the health set status from the two Exchange servers. Each Exchange server is reporting a different issue.
We have gone into details of each monitor but could not find out how to resolve each of the issue. For example as below, the monitor name "RPSCTPPSMonitor" is showing unhealthy, but what we be done next to resolve the issue?
We have tried:
- invoke the particular probe
- Recycle the application pool (e.g. in this case the application pools for RPS)
- IIS Reset
- Server reboot
The issue is still there after performed the actions above. Please assist with anything that can be done apart from configuring override for these monitors?
Thanks
Winnie
After Migration from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 Email address policies are unapplied.
After the migration the email policy is unapplied and my concern is that if I apply it that it might change the existing email address that don't follow the john.smith@work.com and are jsmith@work.com. I have quite a few email address that are just numbers aswell 1234567@work.com.
Will these existing email get changed once I apply them.
Thanks

Delete the emails more than 2 weeks old from Deleted items in all the users mailbox

Exchange 2013 Email Disclaimers
I'm am trying to setup an email disclaimer for inbound email that has attachments. I want to set it up for any email that has an attachment to it. I have set one up but it is not working properly, the disclaimer shows up even if there are no attachments on the email. The rule I currently have set it up is like this:
Apply this rule if.....
The recipient is: My internal email address
and The sender is located: Outside the organization
and Any attachment is greater than or equal to: 0.00 K
Action:
Do the following: Prepend the disclaimer - added text
Currently, the disclaimer gets applied to all my outside incoming email even if there are no attachments included. I only want to apply it to any email that has an attachment. I have tried several combinations to no avail, I'm only applying it to my account until I get a successful test. What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
