Exchange 2013 MSExchangeFastSearch Event id 1009

Hello,

We have been running Exchange 2013 CU7 with DAG since early this year and no issues.  Last weekend I upgraded to CU10 and now I am seeing errors on one of the server where all the copies remain passive.

Usually I have seen this event if before when we failover and restart the server but now it just comes while everything running normally.  This error message has this line "The Content Submission Service returned failure for the document: Document timeout expired" which is different than those message which I see during failover.  I restart Microsoft Exchange Search service and everything again goes to normal then after some time again I see this error.

Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus shows "ContentIndexerrormessage" "Failed an Internal error occurred for the database or its index".

This occurred on different database sometimes multiple databases.  Restart of search service fixes it for some time.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2807668

I am aware of this link but my error message is slightly different as I mentioned above and restart of search fixes it for a short time.

OAB and external users

Exchange 2013 Sp1 CU4 is on both servers ex1 and ex2, OAB gen mailbox is on ex1, router forward ports 443 and 25 to ex2. For internal users everything is ok and OAB download working fine, but for external users (Outlook 2010, 2013, 2016) it is not ok, it just stuck download process. Autodiscover.xml returns ok url for internal and external access, but when i start get-bitstransfer on external client i got:
...
ErrorDescription        : The server name or address could not be resolved
FileList                : {https://ex1.domain.local/OAB/oabguid.xml
...

So why it's point to internal url? If I edit hosts file and map internal url and external IP it pass but that is not solution.

Any help?

Disable users can still login

Hi,

I have Windows Server 2012 AD servers and Exchange Server. The problem is that when I disable a user in AD, it can still login to OWA and can send and receive emails.

Is it a bug in Server 2012. I need to disable user completely.

empty Deleted Items Folder

Hello,

We have a custom Deleted Items Retention policy of 5 years. We also have in-place hold for all mailboxes for 5 years for eDiscovery purposes.

The value set for "Keep deleted items for (days):" is the default, 14 days for each Database. This is obsolete because of the retention and in-place holds, therefore, emails in the "Deleted Items" folder keeps piling up unless users manually purge them.

Is there a way to empty "Deleted Items" Folder (not Recoverable Items\Deletions) in each user's mailbox without editing any retention/hold setting? PS command maybe?

Thanks in advance!

Random Shared Mailboxes Report Activesyncenabled True

While doing a query on mailboxes that have activesync enabled, many of our resource and shared mailboxes came back with "true". While many shared mailboxes show "false", there are a lot that show "true" as well.

What causes this behavior? How are they even being flagged as "true" on a shared mailbox?

Thanks!

Installing a Script/Extension

So we have a exchange 2013 2 member DAG with an edge server. We need to monitor the queues and other things and seems like this little script/extension will do exactly what we need:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/volkancoskun/archive/2015/02/24/exchange-2013-monitoring-mailbox-databases-and-queues.aspx

So how do you "install" this sweet little tool?

Exchange 2013 Certificate

Hi Guys,

we have deployed Exchange 2013 however the exchange was using self signed certificate .

after 4 days we applied valid certificate from a 3rd party, certificate has been applied on the exchange and activated.

on each outlook user they keep getting the pop up ex.domain.lan certificate is invalid.

somehow the outlook users can't see the new webmail.domain.com certificate .

how can I deploy the correct certificate on the outlook users from the server side ?

can you help to troubleshoot this ?

thank you

While this post:
https://www.gavin.pro/2015/08/26/exchange-2013-mapi-submit-monitor/

says you can safely ignore and override this monitor, I have not been able to do so. This is particularly frustrating because our SCOM server catches these alerts and shows our Exchange servers as unhealthy.

I ran the following command to override it:

[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-GlobalMonitoringOverride | fl

RunspaceId         : 0ffa50a4-3a83-45ed-8f30-25aadba55c3e

But the alert still returns.

I have tried overriding the Responder instead of the Monitor:

Add-GlobalMonitoringOverride -ItemType "Responder"

but the state is still unhealthy.

Any advice? Thanks!

Hello!

exchange server 2010 sp3 management console fail to initialize

NOTE: Exchange Server 2010SP3 running on Server 2012 Std R2

I encounter the subject problem after I try to install the Symantec Mail Security for Exchange Server (v7.5) but with failure to validate with solid SMSSME user mailbox.

I follow the recommend troubleshooting by the Symantec support team and find out more problems:

The Exchange Management Console now fails to start with the error:

connecting to remote server xxxxx failed with the following error message: The WinRM client cannot process the request. It cannot determine the content type of the HTTP response from the destination computer. The content type is absent or invalid. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic. It was running the command 'Discover-ExchangeServer -UseWIA $true -SupressError $true -CurrentVersion 'Version 14.3 (Build 123.4)".

And after further investigation, I find that I cannot execute Get-Mailbox in the exchange management command console.

Any assistance about this problem?

Thanks!

Retrieving inbox count with Powershell is returning wrong amount.

Hi,

I have a script which I run against an OU to give me inbox counts for a set of users. The script I use is as following:

$file = "C:\Results\InboxReport.csv"

Get-Mailbox -OrganizationalUnit "[LDAP Path]"  | Get-MailboxFolderStatistics  |  where {$_.ItemsInFolder -gt 1} | where {$_.FolderPath -eq "/Inbox"}  | Select-Object Identity,ItemsInFolder | Sort-Object ItemsInFolder | Export-CSV "$file" -NoTypeInformation -useculture

For some reason it sometimes returns the wrong result. For example a particular user have 100 emails in his inbox but the script said he had 500 in his inbox. If there something in the users inbox that neither they or I can see?

Thanks In Advance!

Users left over in AD after Migration to Office 365

I migrated Exchange 2010 to Office 365 and then uninstalled Exchange 2010. I now have no exchange server here and all the mail is at Office 365. As soon as the uninstall finished I started getting the following error every time dirsync runs:

Unable to update this object in Azure Active Directory, because the attribute [Username], is not valid. Update the value in your local directory services.

These are the offending Identities:

DiscoverySearchMailbox {D919BA05-46A6-415f-80AD-7E09334BB852}@domainnameSystemMailbox{1f05a927-7617-4e33-9d17-ed2dd153465e}@domainname

SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9}@domainname

Can I,delete these users out of Active Directory to make these errors go away, or is there some reason to keep them around.

How do I share only one sub-folder on a user's exchange mailbox without showing contents for the Inbox or any other sub-folder? I have tried to do this in 10 different ways and none seems to work.

Exchange 2013 - need to delegate permissions to mail-enable existing users only

$

We have a technical support department. Several guys there perform tasks like creating new user accounts and mail-enabling them. As several mandatory fields in account properties can't be filed using Exchange management console, first they create an account in ADUC filling properly all needed fields and only then mail-enable them using EMC.

The problem is, the standard "Recipient management" role group gives too much rights to its members. In particular, we have a couple of accidents when they deleted a mailbox without really intending to to it. I'd like to assign them permissions to only mail-enable existing users. I tried to create a new role group and add to it only "Mail recipient creation" role. However, members of this group can't mail-enable existing users. They can only create them from scratch ("Select" button is simply grayed out and inactive).

Is there a way to create a new administration role that permits only mail-enabling existing accounts and nothing else?
