Hey Experts ,

Thought this is a ago old error for exchange world but really need a fix for this , so we have a user who was previously working with xyz.com as a contractor now we have this user on our company roll abc.com . Here is a deal user got some some contacts in pst from xyz.com that he imported to his outlook contacts in abc.com , sending emails to these via outlook address-book contacts generates a NDR per below error . Typing in the complete email address of recipient in xyz.com and sending shoots out the emails fine. I referred below technet KB & even tried creating new nk2 file / OL profile but didn't helped . Apart double clicking the contact name in outlook shows the correct information . Please suggest ?

Retention Tags and Mailbox Migration

Can someone please set me straight?

According to this article

The retention age of mailbox items is calculated from the date of delivery. So if my mailbox has items from 10 years ago and I apply a retention policy of 2 years then all the email beyond 2 years is either moved to archive or deleted based on what was set.

Is this correct?

If I do a remote mailbox move then is this still true?

Unable to change DSN messages

I was unable to customize the default DSN messages for Exchange Server 2013.

I'm able to use new-systemmessage to setup a customized DSN message, and I can see it using get-systemmessage, but when the system send me the DSN message I receive the default one instead of the customized.

I'm not pretty sure about the procedure, so I ask you what kind of steps I need to do.
I've already done the following:

a) New-SystemMessage bla bla bla (work fine and create the message)
b) Get-SystemMessage (work fine, show me the customized message)
c) Set-SystemMessage bla bla bla (work fine and change the message)

Exchange trying to resolve external e-mail addresses in local Active Directory

On all of my Mailbox Database servers, i'm getting the following warning in my Application log:

I have three Exchange Server 2013 MBX/CAS servers, and two Exchange Server 2013 Edge Transport servers in front of them.

As mentioned earlier, this warning is on all three of the MBX/CAS servers. The external e-mail address vary.

I've used the Get-MessageTrackingLog to debug, and I can see that this error comes when an internal user sends a "Meeting Forward Notification" to an external e-mail address. Exchange tries to resolve the external e-mail address in Active Directory and throws this warning, for some reason.

Is there anyone that knows how to fix this?


Exchange 2013 HealthMailboxes Exceeds Number of User Licenses in W12R2 Essentials

Hi,

i get an error from the essentials dashboard, that my user licenses eceeds the maximum of 25 users. I do have only 12 active users, but lots of "HealthMailbox*" created by Exchange Server (running on a different machine). I use a powershell script to hide them from dashboard:

 $Users = Get-WssUser | Where-Object {$_.UserName -Like 'HealthMailbox*'}
ForEach ($User in $Users)
{
   Set-WssUserDashboardVisibility $User.UserName -Hidden
}

But they always reappear, because these health-mailboxes are created anew with every reboot of the exchange server.

How can I avoid this behaviour?

Search All Exchange HT Servers For Message Tracking

Good Afternoon Everyone - 

Just a quick question. We have 10 Exchange servers all multi roll servers. I wanted to know if how to search all 10 servers message tracking logs when looking for a particular email. Would I use the following:

get-transportservice | get-messagetrackinglog or 

Get-ExchangeServer | where {$_.isHubTransportServer -eq $true} | get-messagetrakinglog

Delete rule based on keywords from subject or body doesn't work

Apply this rule is set to: if subject or body includes 'keywords'. It is only applying when those keywords are in the subject. If they are in the body, the e-mail goes through.

Exchange 2016 Admin Center - cannot login

I have installed Exchange 2016 in my hybrid organization to replace/upgrade my on premise Exchange 2010 service.

I built a new server (server 2012 R2), applied all of the patches, applied all of  the prerequisites, and then installed Exchange 2016 (Mailbox + Admin tools)

The Exchange Management Shell works as expected.

For some reason I cannot log in to the Exchange Admin Center.  The URL ishttps://localhost/ecp/?ExchClientVer=15

When I provide my credentials (domain\myadminaccount) and password the page blanks the password field and returns me back to the credentials page.  However, if I enter the wrong password or a user/password combination that is invalid the password field is blanked and I receive an error: "The user name or password you entered isn't correct.  Try entering it again"

Valid username/password = password field blanked and I'm asked for password again.
Invalid username/password gets the error message, the password is blanked, and I'm asked for password again.

I can't find any authentication or IIS errors in the log files.

My Account is a member of the Organization Management security group and is the same account I used to install Exchange 2016.

We set up Federated services for the Office 365 portion of our hybrid environment, do I have to force the Exchange Admin Center to use ADFS for authentication?

Any help getting me into the console would be appreciated.  I can manage the install from PowerShell if I have to but my junior team members are lost without a GUI......

I'm can't create new user mailbox .I can't insert information in text box (First name, Initials,Last name ,etc) , because ??

And ,I'm can't  click "Browse"  select "Organizational unit"

But I select existing user ,I can create is normally.

Hi Guys,

I am in a totally disastrous situation.  We have an Exchange Server 2013 CU10 (single server environment) which was working perfectly.  Since yesterday, mail flow stopped.  Mails coming in are received by SMTP, but not delivered to the mail boxes.  Even internal emails are not delivered.  When we send the mail, it is coming to the sent folder, but not delivered to mail boxes nor visible in the queue.  The queue doesn't show any active connection.  scenario is same for internal and external emails. 

I have now deleted all receive connectors (I might be wrong) and re-created just the Front End for internet emails. 

I badly need somebody to help me immediately to resolve the issue.

Mass mailing from Outlook goes slow

Exchange 2013 running and migrating from Exchange 2007.  We have a few accounts setup to do mass mailings.  Email is generated on a client running Outlook, then goes out through the Exchange server.  On accounts that have been migrated to Exchange 2013, when they send the messages, you can watch the messages slowly leave the Outbox.  They leave 30 at a time, hit the Exchange server and go out.  On accounts that have not been migrated to Exchange 2013 yet, they follow the same routine, but all mails leave Outbox immediately.  We can see them in the Exchange 2007 server, and they queue up for delivery.  So, if 15-20 people are on a domain, it groups them together, hits that mail server once and delivers all the messages at the same time.

What would be causing Exchange 2013 to slowly accept messages and then send them out?  I already set the account in question with a "No Throttling" throttling policy.  I set receive connectors to accept 1000 connections, I set send connectors to allow for 200 connections at once.

Whenever I send an email to a Distribution List (approximately 500 users), not all of them are receiving the message.  All their SMTP are correct, but I'm always getting this message below and I would like to know what's causing it.

We have a Hybrid/CAS Exchange Online environment.  This scenario is sent from Lotus Notes (distribution list) then to Exchange Online, then checks in with our AD FS (Active Directory) then back to Exchange Online and delivered to the users' Outlook if successful, otherwise, the sender will get the Non Delivery Report (NDR). 

Also, is there a limit when sending to a Distribution Group? Ours is about 500 users.

I want to move a user from subdomain a to subdomain b.

I do not know how to. I would use ADMT? But what are the steps so that the user also can access the mailbox.

Hi Folks,

In our Exchange 2013 environment, users have multiple proxy SMTP addresses. I need to add a new proxy SMTP address for specific users; those are in large numbers. while looking to different forums - i have broken this task into steps.

1. Add an accepted domain by using following command

New-AcceptedDomain -Name "Domain Test B" -DomainName domainb.net -DomainType Authoritative

2. Add Proxy SMTP address to all users by using following command

$users = Get-Mailbox

foreach ($a in $users) {$a.emailaddresses.Add("$($a.alias)@domainb.net")}

$users | %{Set-Mailbox $_.Identity -EmailAddresses $_.EmailAddresses}

step 3: use a filter to exclude specific users those have primary SMTP addresses as "ext.testone.com"

Get-Recipient | where {$_.emailaddresses -match “ext.testone.com”} | select Name, Emailaddresses

step 4: Remove domainb.net proxy SMTP address from those users who have "ext.testone.com" as their primary SMTP address.

This is where i am looking for help. I am trying to use output provided by step 3 command to removedomainb.net proxy SMTP address from the users having primary SMTP address as "ext.testone.com"

I am using following command with no luck.

>Get-Recipient | where {$_.EmailAddresses -match "ext.testone.com"} | Set-Mailbox -EmailAddresses @{Remove="domainb.net"}

Please assist or suggest any other way!

Note: i do not want to achieve this by using CSV file.

Missing the "Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate"

Hi Everyone,

I have a single Exchange box.    

Was integrating my Lync and Exchange and noticed some issues after configuring my Lync pre-reqs: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj721919.aspx

Following the line of communication and event logs, I quickly saw that the error was not on my Lync Server, but on my Exchange.  The "Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate" that is created during Ex2013 install was missing. It was not there to give out tokens for the Server to Server authentication required to integrate Lync, Exchange, and Sharepoint.

Running Get-AuthConfig: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj215766(v=exchg.150).aspx pointed to a thumbprint that did not exist anymore.  

I confirmed this by checking the local cert store (local computer>personal>certificates), looking in the ECP (servers>certificates), and also running Get-ExchangeCertificate

In my Exchange Server event log, I found the following errors:

Googling has only produced one article that is about another issue that I would have found further down the line if I wasn't testing within the pre-reqs.  The solution is the same, but the article is somewhat poorly written and does not respond to all the comments enough to leave one feeling it's 100% correct.

The broad strokes are clear:

The fix is to create a new "Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate" by using the following sequence of cmdlets In EMS on the MBX server:

1. New-ExchangeCertificate -KeySize 2048 -PrivateKeyExportable $true -SubjectName "cn= Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate" -FriendlyName "Microsoft Exchange Server Auth Certificate" -Services smtp

Do not accept to replace the SMTP certificate when prompted

2. Note the thumbprint of the new certificate. Let us assume it is 7A39541F8DF58D4821967DD8F899B27410F7C081

3. $a=get-date

4. Set-AuthConfig -NewCertificateThumbprint 7A39541F8DF58D4821967DD8F899B27410F7C081 –NewCertificateEffectiveDate $a

Accept to continue despite the fact that the certificate effective date is not 48 hours into the future

5. Set-AuthConfig –PublishCertificate

6. Make sure to remove any potential reference to the previous certificate (which might not exist anymore) by doing Set-AuthConfig -ClearPreviousCertificate.

Remember to do iisreset on both CAS and MBX servers. Then finally, you can try to re-issue the New-CsPartnerApplication cmdlet.

65 Million Dollar question:

Is the syntax in part 1 correct?  Two people says to add the domain?  Jens responds, but it's vague.  What would the correct command look like?  I do not know where to add the -DomainName within the command and which name I should add?  The FQDN of the CAS?

Exchange Power shell in sbs 2011

Hi. Not sure if this is the correct forum . If not Im sure somebody will point me in the right direction.

I have an sbs 2011 Sever. We use it for file sharing and an on premises Exchange Mail server.

Im trying to evolve a good backup system.

We run a nightly Tape backup - Symantec.

But I can see there would be an issue , should we have a totally failure.

So each month I run an export of the mailboxes to PST files- which we can move off site . Giving us another option for restoring the pst files should we have a big problem

I use the following syntax

New-MailboxExportRequest -MailBox a.user -FilePath "\\myserver\Oct15\AUser.pst"

This will then extract all the mail for "A.User"

Where "myServer" is the name of my server

Can anybody advise how I can changes this to extract any mail after  a date - eg 1/10/2015  ( ist Oct 2015)

OR

A product I can purchase which will give me a gui interface

Outlook client certificate security alert after removal of .local domain from UCC

We just recently remove our .local domains from UCC cert. I notice that I now get a Security alert about 10-15 seconds after I open outlook client showing one of the cas/hub transports. I had modified all of the web virtual directories, OWA ect. to external url.  is there an easy way to confirm all .local references are moved to external url?

Exchange 2010 - size on disk is double what is reported by tools

Hi,

1st post (sorry, couldn't find a 2010 only forum).

I'm wondering if anyone can help.

'Simple' exchange setup - Public Folders - on disk shows 16Gb for the Public Folders.ebd. I have 2 main Public Folders - with a total of about 3,500 folders within them. All works great.

All my reporting tools show that the Public Folders are actually only 8.64Gb in size. Outlook also says this when doing a Folder Size request (Outlook actually says 9059623Kb)

Is there any way to reduce the file size on disk?

I've defraged using eseutil - all is fine.

White space is minimal. 

Get PublicFolderDatabase stats shows the database size is 15.72 Gb (16,877,944,832 bytes)  AvailableNewMailboxspace 57 Mb

I 'think' what may have happened was that when I was 'migrating' from 2003 (which ultimately was a hard copy of folders from exported PST to brand new exchange, don't remind me of that pain) I might have duplicated some of the folders etc.

None of that duplication exists now - in at least the folders that I see.

I have also run exfolders and gone through many (but not all) folders to see if any deleted items are there - all are clean - as are the deleted items in Outlook - all clean.

So, I'm baffled.

The only thing I think to do, is to export all again to PST and reimport to a new clean Public Folder setup. But, I'd rather not.

Exchange severe performance degradation

Hi,

I have a two-node Exchange 2013 DAG and keep getting the following warnings on each server about once every two hours, and at all hours of the day and night. The database mentioned in the event detail can be any of the 8 in the DAG. The server never breaks a sweat and always has at least 50% RAM free at all times. At one point I thought these events coincided with my DPM server performing a backup but that doesn't seem to be the case. I've added all the AV exclusions I can to our AV product (McAfee Viruscan) but no difference.

All DAG replication tests check out OK and everything else about the setup is behaving perfectly.

How can recive pop3 emails from internet mail server using exchange edge server 2013?

I want to use my exchange edge server to receive my internet emails from my pop3 internet host server; I was use my internet hot email many years ago, and I recently use exchange edge server in my company and I want receive emails from that server in my exchange organization using edge server; how can I do that?
