Managed Availability errors in clean install of CU7

$

0

I have a clean install of an Exchange 2013 CU7 (MBX & CAS) on W2K12R2 Standard. This is a VM running on ESXi 5.5.

When I run the BPA, I get some errors related to the new "Managed Avalibility" feature:

I have "Check server health entry" for Mapi.Submit.Monitor, OutlookRpcSelfTestMonitor, OutlookRpcDeepTestMonitor & RpsDeepTestPSProxyMonitor.

"Check state of server component" for ForwardSyncDaemon & ProvisioningRps.

"Check report of health set" for MailboxTransport, RPS & Outlook.Protocol.

Any idea where to start troubleshooting?

As requested a previous thread where this issue originated, here is the result of the installed features:

OAB Genration Failed

Hello, I have an Single multiple child domain controller scenario. Everything was working fine till day before, clients started reporting that they ain't recieving updated OAB in outlook. After some research in Exchange server OAB folder we found that folders OAB folder exists with its sub folders (a long GUID) but we were not able to see the same folders under IIS-->OAB virtual directory. Wwe have then manualy tried updating the OAB which gave an error below....                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      " Generation of OAB "\Global_OAB" failed. Random autodiscover pop ups

$

We have been running Exchange 2013 for around 10 months now. We upgraded 2013 to CU7 in January, for the last 2 months it has been the only Exchange environment we have, before then we had in coexistence with Exchange 2007.

Over the last week or so a number of users have reported random auto discover pop ups. All users saw this when they first moved to 2013, and it is seen again if they log into a new machine or need to rebuild their mail profile, however, the people reporting this are using machines they have had for a while and no changes have been made to their profiles.

The pop up says it needs to reconfigure an xml file (the path is specific to their profile).

Why do these pop ups appear and what can I do to stop them?

EX 2013 Database Copy "Passive Failed" but "Content Index State Healthy" suspend/remove?

Hello,
I had a failure during the replication of my db copies on my DAG the other night, and I am unsure what my next steps should be to get a healthy copy for the failed server.  I was expecting to see a Suspend | Update | Remove option, but all I get is suspend& remove.  See details below...

What should my next steps be to get a good copy of the db on my MBX01 server?  Will it just fix itself at the next attempt to replicate, or do I need to manually do something to make a fresh copy?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Unhealth outlook HealthSet

Hi all,

Was wondering if someone might be able to shed some light on this - as i've been going around in circles :0. We have an internal+external dns name, we have a single 2010 server + single 2013 server. I've set virtualdirectory/oab etc to go to mail.* on the exchange 2013 server, set up certificates etc, recreated health mailboxes, restarted etc etc, but can't work out how to resolve the following (or even how to diagnose further):

I've replaced domain name with 'internaldns'. our external domain name doesn't appear in the event log entry - nor does our mail.externaldomain name that i've set all virtual directory paths I can find to. The health mailbox that is getting logged into is on the exchangesrv - it's one of the 10 exchangesrv-001/002 mailboxes used for the CAS.

Any thoughts?

Dynamic Distribution Group LDAP query issue

$

Thanks to any and all in advance for your help.

So I'm trying to configure a dynamic distribution group query to accomplish two things:

1.  Grab all mailboxes with secondary email addresses of say @domain1.com and @domain2.com

2.  Exclude Distribution groups in the query (as some of the distribution groups have secondary addreses as above)

I'm running the following powershell to set the recipient filter on the DDL:

Set-DynamicDistributionGroup "DistributionGroup" -RecipientFilter {((EmailAddresses -like "*@domain1.com") -and (EmailAddresses -like "*@domain2.com")-and (-not(RecipientType -eq "MailUniversalDistributionGroup")))}

After checking the members of the dynamic list, I'm still seeing regular distribution groups be included when the Dynamic Distribution List is populated.

Banging my head on my desk.  What am I missing?

Thanks again!

Unable to edit MailBox folder & Rules of other users with PowerShell

Hello,

I'm trying to modify the rules of my users inbox folders and rules but I'm not able to do that even though I'm assigned the rights which were supposed to be enough. The account I'm running this command is a domain admin and pretty much has all the rights for the exchange server.

Add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity satan:\Inbox -User god -AccessRights Owner
Add-MailboxPermission -Identity satan -User god -AccessRights FullAccess -InheritanceType All
New-MailboxFolder -Parent Satan:\Inbox -Name Test
New-Inboxrule -name "Test" -mailbox satan -sentTo "Angels" -MoveToFolder Test  -force

And this is what I get:

The specified mailbox "Satan" doesn't exist.

Exchange Server 2013 CU7 Back Pressure Version Buckets

$

Hello,

Since upgrading from SP1 to CU7 I'm noticing periodic crashes when users send large files. This latest time, two 25 to 31 MB messages were sent within 10 minutes. The second 31 mb file caused the server to crash (or in microsofts words delay, in my book no mail flow equals crash.)

Each time I've seen 15004 events stating the following.

The resource pressure increased from Normal to Medium.

The following resources are under pressure:

Version buckets = 132 [Medium] [Normal=80 Medium=120 High=200]

The following components are disabled due to back pressure:

Inbound mail submission from the Internet

Mail submission from Pickup directory

Mail submission from Replay directory

Mail delivery to remote domains

Content aggregation

Mail resubmission from the Message Resubmission component.

Mail resubmission from the Shadow Redundancy Component

The following resources are in normal state:

Queue database and disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Queue\mail.que") = 32% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]

Queue database logging disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Queue\") = 32% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]

Private bytes = 4% [Normal] [Normal=71% Medium=73% High=75%]

Physical memory load = 82% [limit is 94% to start dehydrating messages.]

Submission Queue = 0 [Normal] [Normal=2000 Medium=4000 High=10000]

Temporary Storage disk space ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\data\Temp") = 32% [Normal] [Normal=95% Medium=97% High=99%]

We have had user's size limits set to 30MB. I've re-examined the size settings throughout exchange and made sure they match.

I've read in some places just to increase the threshold, but microsoft says to leave the defaults if you can and find the underlying issue. I've also read on another blog someone was able to fix similar issues by replacing the edgetransport.exe.config.

Here's the blog: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c3d300c5-473f-4ab3-8df2-e85c0ea2ed99/backpressure-activated-after-exchange-cu5-installversion-buckets?forum=exchangesvrsecuremessaging

I'm rather skeptical of replacing the config file.... Anyone have experience changing the version bucket thresholds?

Notification when Equipment is Reserved?

Howdy,

We have some Equipment Mailboxes setup for things like Projectors, Wireless Presenters, and Hot Spots.  When someone sets up a meeting then can reserve a piece of equipment if they need one.  All the equipment is stored in the IT area so I'm wondering if there's a way that we can have an email get sent to a certain email address any time someone reserves equipment, or if there's some other way to get notified so we can have the equipment ready for them to stop by and pick it up.

Does that make sense?

Thanks!

how to stop getting exchange emails telling me "your public folder "\xyz\abc" is becoming too large. The current size is 57mb.

I just upgraded to exchange 2013, and now, I'm getting emails from exchange that say the following:

Your public folder "\Media\Aim Reports\Station Summary" is becoming too large. The current size is 57 MB.<o:p></o:p>

Please reduce the size of your public folder by deleting any items you don't need.

<o:p></o:p>

<o:p>How do I stop them from coming? </o:p>

<o:p>I have already tried this command, but it didn't work:</o:p>

Set-PublicFolder -Identity "\Public Folders" -UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults: $False

Is there a place in the ECP I can just disable it?

Thanks, Dan

AD Permissions and Exchange Roles

$

I have a basic question, I have some admins that have domain admin access, we're working on removing that.  In our new Exchange 2013 build I want to limit their access to only very basic Exchange roles.  Will they be able to override the permissions I set because they are domain admins?

I have a feeling I know the answer to this but I'm looking for confirmation.

Thanks,

Matt

Exchange 2013 Online mode slow performance

$

Hello,

We recently moved mailboxes (180 or so) from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  We are noticing that Outlook navigation seems to be very slow compared to the last server.  Changing folder views, switching from Inbox to Calendar, Deleting items, etc.  Also we used to be able to send 40MB HTML emails very quickly.  This now takes about 5 min just to open a reply. (These are tripwire reports.)  Most users are using Outlook in Online mode on the new server and were using Online mode on the old server

Environment: Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012r2 Standard (6 cores 24 gigs of RAM, VMWare VM.)  Old server is Exchange 2007 8.3.348.2 on Server 2008x64 Standard SP2 (8 cores 12 gigs of RAM. Physical.)

I have a ticket open with MS but didn't really get anywhere after 9 hours yesterday.

Thanks.

Hi all,

In my environment I have 2 Exchange server 2013 (CAS + Mailbox Role both) CU2 : EX01 & EX02 in DAG01. Sometimes CAS service is restarted or Mailbox Database copy on Exchange servers is dismounted unexpectedly. For example today:
I have "Mailbox Database 01" copies on EX01 & EX02

Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus "Mailbox Database 01"
Name Status
Mailbox Database 01\EX01 Healthy
Mailbox Database 01\EX02 Mounted

"Mailbox Database 01" copy on EX02 is dismounted, of course the other copy on EX01 is mounted automatically

On EX01 I can see many 1309 , 2009 , 6002 , 4999 in Event Viewer on both servers, and they just used half of RAM

I'm going to upgrade to SP1 this weekend but please help me to figure out really reason of this issue, limit of max connections on Exchange/Window server , or Disk IO or something ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I have a problem where Event ID 3028 Source MSExchangeApplicationLogic is beeing logged every 6 hours with 4 same type of events. Here is the log:

Scenario: ProcessKillBit. Failed to read killbit list file because of exception System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\owa\prem\15.0.995.29\ext\killbit\killbit.xml' because it is being used by another process.

The environment is single virtual MS Exchange 2013 server running on Windows 2012 R2. DC is running on a separate server.

I can't seem to find any articles or blogs relating to this issue.

Thanks for any help.

health probe - not running and trying to see why?

Hi,

Im trying to fix our exchange server 2013 (patched upto and including CU8)

when I run the following command

get-healthreport -server servername | where {$_.alertvalue -ne “healthy”} | ft -auto

Server State         HealthSet         AlertValue LastTransitionTime  MonitorCount
------ -----         ---------         ---------- ------------------  ------------
xxNotApplicable Compliance       Unhealthy  23/04/2015 14:01:26 29
xxNotApplicable MailboxTransport Unhealthy  23/04/2015 13:21:35 25
xxNotApplicable Outlook           Unhealthy  23/04/2015 13:57:21 3

when i run the next command to get a list of the monitors that are unhealthy

$test = get-healthreport -server servername | where {$_.alertvalue -ne “healthy”}
foreach ($line in $test) {$line.entries | where {$_.alertvalue -ne “healthy”} | ft -auto}

it shows me that the following monitor is unhealthy in the outlook healthset

Server State         Name                 TargetResource HealthSetName AlertValue ServerComponent
------ -----         ----                 -------------- ------------- ---------- ---------------
xx NotApplicable OutlookRpcCtpMonitor                Outlook       Unhealthy  None

From this I found that the probe is OutlookRpcCtpMonitor, so I then tried to invoke the probe

invoke-monitoringprobe -identity Outlook\OutlookRpcCtpProbe -server xx

that returns the following error..

WARNING: Failed to find the probe result for invoke now request id 2610659f96e64e62b4c71d1f61f65d5e and probe
workdefinition id 198.

I have restarted the server, recycled the MSExchangeSyncAppPool.  Not sure what else to try so that can fix the unhealthy set within exchange.

Kind regards

Simon
