Exchange Calendars and iOS 8 .pst

$

I can't imaging there aren't hundreds of threads on this, but I can't find anything specific on it.

I have dozens of clients who have Exchange servers through my company, and use iPhone.  Many of them are having an issue where they create a new calendar event on their phone in their exchange calendar, and after a small amount of time the event either shows and moves as pacific standard time, or it just labels it .pst under the original time.  I have so many people asking me for a fix and because I have the issue myself, I've been trying so many solutions and have found none.  I've read where some have concluded there isn't one.

I have tried the following:

- Turning on and off and Time Zone Override

- Turning off and on location services for Calendar

- Turning my exchange account off and on on my iPads and other devices.

None of these solutions have created a pattern, and no one situation has been consisting.

How can I easily grant access to a terminated employee's mailbox including deleted items? If I have the terminated employee's mailbox on litigation hold the deleted items are in the recovery folder, but can the recovery folder only be viewed through e-discovery process?

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I just ran into this:

A user had a bunch of folders in her Outlook favorites, some of these folders are from a PST opened in her Outlook profile, since yesterday, she is complaining that the folders from the PST file have disappeared from her favorites, the PST is still opened in her Outlook, so I don't know how this could have happened.

Thanks

Impersonate Rights in Multi Tenant Environment

Hi,

we have an exchange 2013 multi tenant system running.

some customers asks now for impersonation rights assigned to a user for PBX systems to query the contacts folders.

is it possible to assign impersonationrights to a user, but this user should only allowed to query a set of users with the impersonation rights?

So, a user in Company1 should only query Company1 Users...

Exchange 2013 Cu6 running virtualized suddenly eats up FC-Raid performance

$

Hello,

We have a running Exchange 2013 CU6 deployment on a 2-Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster with FibreChannel Shared Storage. (6 Discs, Raid6)

The average Read using Raw data is at about 450 MB/s. 5 Days ago Exchange started behaving slow and finally almost stopped responding. After searching several hours it turned out that the Disc Queue length on the Hyper-V Hosts (both) was jumping between 3 - 60! while the Disk I/O was at about 5mb/s at maximum.

Doing a new raw transfer test was showing a transfer of 2-3 mb/s at a packet size of 1MB and Perfmon showing 100% Highest active time. Response time went up from 20-30ms to 500-800 ms .

We had made no changes either to the Host or the Exchange for about 2 Month. The Database growth during the past 2 Years  running it on The FC Raid was at about 25 GB.

Finally we moved Exchange away to a new Host with  local Raid and the same happened there while the FC Raid wen´t back to normal Operation. This was tried several Times with the same result. Wherever the Exchange VM was running the I/O Performance dropped like 99%

Exchange VM is configured with

16 GB RAM fixed (Usually using 12 Gigs)
6 Virtual Processors (Host is a 6 Core Xeon, Overall Usage between 5-25 %)
Fixed size 100 GB Drive for the System
Fixed size 300 GB Drive for the Mail Database (actually ~100 GB Size)

Network is a Broadcom 1GB NIC  and VMQ is disabled due to the VMQ Feature not Supported on this card (didn´t even work with the latest drivers)

We are searching now for more than 5 Days for the "magic switch" that resumes operation back to normal.

Are there any known but not documented limmits for Database Sizes running on Virtual disc or does anyone has other Hints/Tips how to fix this issue ?

Best regards

Andreas

Hi,

When we do 'get-mailboxstatistics  or export the AD properties to txt or CSV file, all Arabic entered fields are shown as ???? (question marks).  Kindly suggest how to get these Arabic fields (such as designation, department) extracted in Arabic itself.

Outlook Sync with Exchange

We have an in house Exchange 2010 setup, 1  CAS/HUB Server, 1 Mailbox Server, 1 ADFS Server and a DirSync Server.  Over the last 2 weeks random clients have been experiencing an issue where they no longer are receiving new emails through outlook and all of the inbox folders now show the double blue arrows of a shared folder.  It's happened to 5 client computers now.  This is only affecting that install of outlook as they are not having issues when logged in via OWA, a terminal server or through their phones.

Looking for any idea of where to start looking as to the cause of this issue.

Question Regarding Mailbx Export

I'm having trouble getting New-MailboxExportRequest to merge into an existing PST.  For example if I have a user that has a personal archive enabled and I'm asked to extract their mail to a PST file.  I can run one job to extract the primary mailbox and a second job for the archive, but I want the archive export to merge into the same PST file.

I've tested this a couple of times, but can't get it to work, nor do I see anything in the help file.

Let me know what you think.  Thanks

Steven

Exchange 2013 Online mode slow performance

$

Hello,

We recently moved mailboxes (180 or so) from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  We are noticing that Outlook navigation seems to be very slow compared to the last server.  Changing folder views, switching from Inbox to Calendar, Deleting items, etc.  Also we used to be able to send 40MB HTML emails very quickly.  This now takes about 5 min just to open a reply. (These are tripwire reports.)  Most users are using Outlook in Online mode on the new server and were using Online mode on the old server

Environment: Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012r2 Standard (6 cores 24 gigs of RAM, VMWare VM.)  Old server is Exchange 2007 8.3.348.2 on Server 2008x64 Standard SP2 (8 cores 12 gigs of RAM. Physical.)

I have a ticket open with MS but didn't really get anywhere after 9 hours yesterday.

Thanks.

Exchange OWA Certificate Question

Hello All

I just have a question regarding exchange owa certificate which is about to expire. (owa.domain.com, autodiscover.domain.com, mail.domain.com )

I have

Site one
  Mailbox 2013 Server1
  CAS 2013 Server1
  Edge 2013

Site 2
   Mailbox 2013 Server2
   Cas 2013 Server2
   Edge 2007

Exchange high availability configured. On ECP I am seeing my OWA certificate about to expire on both CAS on the same day(same cert)
I would like to create a new certificate, not renew as I have some old domains to remove from the cert.

My question is, when I create the the new request from ECP - Cas Server1, send to the CA and then install the, how will this reflect for the certificate that is expired on CAS server2?

Thanks

Should I have limits on Mailbox Sizes?

Pretty much what the title is, "Should I have limits on Mailbox Sizes?"

I have a person on the team saying no, "we only have 90 users, why have limits? Exchange was meant to deal with thousands and thousands of users..."

I was shaking my head.

So what do you guys think? Any legit docs to backup your opinions?

MSExchange Front End HTTP Proxy Event ID 2002

Since we upgraded to Echange 2013 CU7 we have been seeing this in the CAS server event logs

Source:        MSExchange Front End HTTP Proxy

Date:          3/9/2015 2:41:41 PM

Event ID:      2002

Task Category: Core

Level:         Warning

Keywords:      Classic

User:          N/A

Computer:      Exchangeserver.domain.com

Description:

[Eas] The number of outstanding requests for guard TargetBackend("vpw1202exch01.bellevue.edu") has exceeded the max limit 150. Current request will be rejected.

I saw someone else had reported this on TechNet, going back to July last year and it looked like it may be something triggered when they upgraded to SP1 but no answer was provided. Does anyone know what causes this and how I can resolve it?

exclude distribution groups from GAL

We are running Exchange 2007 I need to exclude distribution groups in our sub domain from the GAL without hiding them. I have a Recipient Filter that updates that successfully only it fails to exclude the groups.

Health Mailboxes

$

Hi All,

I have a single Exchange Server 2013 CU7 with ONE database, which includes Public Folders.

I've tried recreating the Health mailboxes by deleting the AD Objects etc, and Exchange recreates them.

The issue I have is the NUMBER it creates.  I've just done the above exercise and I get the following (Server is called EXCHANGE)

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-Mailbox-Database

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-001

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-002

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-003

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-004

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-005

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-006

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-007

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-008

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-009

HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-010

And then another load of these numbering the same

In-Place Archive - HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-Mailbox-Database

In-Place Archive - HealthMailbox-EXCHANGE-001

and so on and so forth

What gives?  I thought Exchange only was supposed to create 2 per database.

No matter how many times I stop the Health Service and delete, it creates more and more.

Is there a way to RESET this service to start from scratch again?

Sync-Issues because of RPC Throttling

$

On our exchange system we've got one account which is facing problems in Outlook synchronisation (Outlook 2013 and Exchange 2013).
The account is used in many different Outlook clients (arround 15) in parallel so my first thought was that it must be a throttling issue.

After enabling RPC client access throttling logging I see the following entries in the logs (every few seconds!):

2015-03-10T11:56:27.086Z,1665,428,/o=XXX Orga/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDXXXXXXXX)/cn=Recipients/cn=3c08ab12d0f94cf6b8a47c594b1203f9-info_XXX,,OUTLOOK.EXE,15.0.4569.1503,Cached,,,,ncacn_http,Client=MSExchangeRPC,,,,0,00:00:00,"BS=Owner:Sid~DOMAIN\info_XXX~Rca~false,Conn:57,MaxConn:Unlimited,MaxBurst:Unlimited,Balance:$null,Cutoff:Unlimited,RechargeRate:Unlimited,Policy:HeavyUsers,IsServiceAccount:False,LiveTime:00:50:39.8712493",,,,info@affecteddomain.com,

As shown in the log entry I've already created and assigned a special Throttling policy to this user called "HeavyUsers" where I've set RcaMaxConcurrency, RcaMaxBurst, RcaRechargeRate, and RcaCutoffBalance to unlimited:

Advise on managing subsets of users in Exchange online

$

I am trying to work out how i can manage a subset of users in Office 365. We have 20.000 Mailboxes in Office 365 and i need to only manage 600 from the UK.

Basically i need to run something like Set-Mailbox -CalendarRepairDisabled $true but not for all mailboxes.

I have tried to see if i can use something like -filter '(company -eq "COMPANY")' but that did not work. Then i thought of running through members in a group and do it that way but i was unable to do:

Get-ADGroupMember -identity "GROUP" | set-mailbox -CalendarRepairDisabled $true.

We are in a hybrid setup with OnPrem Exchange 2010 servers.

Thx in advance.

If only i had a cool signature!! ;)

User with Recipient Management Role cannot assign retention policy - grayed out

We are running Exchange 2013 CU5. I added a couple of our helpdesk personnel to the Recipient Management Admin Role so they could add new users. However, they cannot assign the Retention Policy - it's grayed out.

According to this article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd638205(v=exchg.150).aspx they should be able to do this. I don't believe any of the default admin roles have been customized.

Anyone have an idea why?
