After Exchange 2010 GAL segregation users are getting access denied error when accessing contact properties

We are trying to implement GAL segregation in a Exchange 2010 network. CompanyA is new and added to Exchange that is hosted by CompanyB. Created the new GALs, address lists, custom attributes, etc. Now to test for just one user from CompanyB, I set the user's attributes and address book policy but when I went to test using OWA I get the following error when I try to access the properties of a contact in any of the address lists:

"Access is denied. The Active Directory resource could not be accessed. This could be because the Active Directory object doesn't exist or the object has become corrupted, or because you don't have the correct permissions."

What could be causing this error?
