Configuring Exchange Email account without the User being a part of Active Directory

AD= Active Directory

Hello All,

I have a question regarding AD and Exchange.

Current configuration:

We have no AD configured and currently using a standalone Exchange server for our mailing requirements.

Future System:

We will be implementing an AD environment and want to configure a new Exchange Server (exporting our current psts to in)

Scenario:

We have few users which we would like to make a part of the AD with Email configured on Exchange Server.

We also have few users who do not need to be a part of the AD and at the same time need to access to their Exchange mailbox.

Questions:

  • Is it possible to configure some users exclusively on the Exchange Server without creating them on AD?

Which would mean that they can access emails, but not be a part of the AD.

  • Are AD and Exchange licenses two different kind of licenses, meaning do we have to pay for both individually?

Thank you.

Regards,

Amit
