Exchange 2010 Standard transition from P2V ~ Certificates Question.

Hello Folks,

I recently built a 2nd Exchange 2010 standard server in our existing Exchange 2010 Standard site.  This is for a P2V transition.

I just bought a UC SAN cert from Digicert (Msft recommended).  My question is can I import that certificate into the new server through EMC without causing any issues to our existing "in production" Exchange 2010 Server and related CAS services to existing  outlook 2010 clients.  We will be performing online mailbox moves soon.  I actually already tested one mailbox and that is functioning fine on the new server.

What has me confused and wondering if the two Exchange servers share certs is that on a test desktop here I have connected a new outlook profile to the recently moved mailbox on new Exchange server but when I create the first connection to the new Exchange server I see the self signed cert from the old server offered up.  It seems like the two exchange servers are sharing the same self signed cert.  It is clear that the pending certificate import is tied to the new server MSX-V however.

Hope this is clear enough.

old exchange server: hostname MSX.  New exchange server hostname: MSX-V.  When I connect new outlook client on recently online moved mailbox to MSX-V the self signed cert that is offered up is from MSX not MSX-V.

I have only ever worked with single Exchange server sites (since 5.5).  Logic tells me I should be able to assign that new certificate to the new server without affecting the old server's certificate but just not sure. I also do not want to disrupt in production Outlook clients before we are ready to move mailboxes over to the new server.

Thanks,

Rich
